BERLIN: The Slovenian drama Ivan, directed by Janez Burger and produced by Miha Černec through Staragara, has been sold to the Chinese distribution company Huaulu, with plans for it to be released during 2018. The deal was scored at the EFM by Manuela Buono from Slingshot Films, the Italian based company handling the international sales of the film.

This intimate drama about a young woman who is being evaluated as not being able to develop her maternal instincts, stars last year Berlinale Shooting star Maruša Majer. It premiered at the 20th Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož, where it won six Vesna Awards (best feature film, best actress, script, cinematography, music, make-up). The film was coproduced by Propeler Film, RTV Slovenija and Tramal films and supported by the Slovenian Film Center, FS Viba, Croatian Audiovisual Center and Eurimages.

The film had its domestic release in late Autumn 2017 and garnered 3,846 admissions. It has been also released in Serbia by Five Stars Distribution and is scheduled for a release in Croatia next week.

The film screened at Black Nights in Tallinn, “Ivan has been sold to Serbia's five stars distribution. Next week it starts a domestic release in Croatia. It has also been selected for the competition in Sofia and Let's CEE in Vienna, and many others festivals still to be announced,« Buono told FNE.
