The fourth edition of the CEE Animation Workshop has entered its second-to-last module. The first and only onsite module of this year’s edition is taking place in Łódź, Poland. Between 22 and 28 August 2022, Vienna House Andel’s Hotel is hosting 11 projects in development, 26 participants, 10 guest expert lecturers and 25 Polish animation industry representatives.

Juraj Krasnohorsky, head of studies of the CEE Animation Workshop, sums up the programme by saying, “We are very excited to meet everyone in the Łódź module this week since we have met only online up until now. We believe that we have prepared a great programme of expert lectures with tailor-made individual consultations on company strategy and script development, production package and pitch.”

Workshop producers and group leaders Jean-François Le Corre and Ole Wendorff-Østergaard will be joined by the head of studies and producer Juraj Krasnohorsky and programme consultant and producer Jožko Rutar to provide the production package and pitch feedback. Guest experts Caroline Williams and Diane Roberts will hold individual feedback sessions on company development strategy. Groups will be led by already mentioned Jean-François Le Corre and Ole Wendorff-Østergaard, joined by Rita Domonyi and Phil Parker. The onsite module is co-organised by the Polish Animation Producers Association – SPPA with the support of the Polish team – Wojciech Leszczyński, producer at WJTeam / Likaon studio, and Marcin Kotyła, project manager at SPPA.

In addition to the intensive work, the participants will also have a chance to listen to various lectures by international industry experts. Jean-François Le Corre will talk about the distribution of adult animation, Aurélie Angebault will give a lecture titled Compostman: Never give up, never surrender, Ulrich Michael will present the legal aspects of film distribution, co-producing with an sVOD platform and negotiating film agreements, Martin Ličko will focus on the production pipeline on animated films and series, while Jan Naszewski will discuss how to work with a sales agent.

The last days of the week in Łodź will be dedicated to networking and skills sharing with the local animation industry professionals and decision-makers with the aim of facilitating new credit: CEE Animationconnections and possible future collaborations. Special attention will be given to the Polish animation industry, and a panel with guests from Poland (including Monika Głowacka from Łódź Film Commission/EC1, Katarzyna Godzic from the Polish Film Institute and members of SPPA) will explore the possibilities of producing in and with Poland. In addition, a case study on the Polish animated feature film The Peasants will be held by Sean Bobbitt, producer at Breakthru Films and President of the Board at SPPA. The highlight of the entire day’s programme will be a networking event in the hospitable surroundings of the Łódź Film School garden.

“We are especially happy to have the opportunity to host more than 20 Polish producers, film funds representatives and other film professionals and have them explore our participants’ projects, being able to meet in person and hopefully start some new international collaborations”, says Saša Bach, the managing director of the CEE Animation Workshop.

The event in Poland is organised in collaboration with the Polish Animation Producers Association – SPPA and with local partners from Vienna House Andel’s Hotel, Łódź Film School, Indeks Film Studio, WJTeam, Likaon, Łódź Film Commission. The CEE Animation Workshop is supported by the Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Union and the Polish Film Institute.
