Eight Projects Selected for the Tenth Anniversary Edition of Pustnik International Screenwriting Residency

TETA announces the projects selected for the tenth anniversary edition of Pustnik International Screenwriting Residency, set to return to Port Cultural Cetate, on the Danube bank, during 17–24 September 2024. The eight projects were picked by Pustnik co-founders and writer-directors Andreea Borțun (Romania) and Bryn Chainey (UK/Australia) from the 93 submissions received from 39 countries.

The participants and their screenwriting projects are:

“A Backstreet Boy”, by Hannu-Pekka Peltomaa, Finland

“Bunker”, by Anthony Foussard and Christian Legrand, France

“Exotic Toxic Erotic”, by Denisse Conn Tübacü, Romania

“Late Spring”, by Yuan Yuan, China

“Mariposa”, by Victoria Visco Mendonça, Brazil

“Please Bear with Me”, by Gabriela Serrano and Mariana Serrano, Philippines

“Reality Shirley”, by Stella Carneiro, Portugal

“Tigress of Patha”, by Sai Haval, India

The residents will work on their debut feature-length screenplays while getting insight and guidance from established screenwriters, who can provide feedback on their projects.

“This year we’ve chosen eight projects that stood out for their conceptual clarity and singularity of vision. We look for films that don’t always follow narrative convention but do give authentic insight into the culture, unique concerns, and deepest soul of the author. These eight projects vary in topic and sensibility but share an abundance of personality, urgency, and imaginative truth,” declared Bryn Chainey.

This year, Pustnik is continuing its partnership with the European Short Pitch short script development programme by offering a place in the residence to a recent ESP alumni with whom we share a similar vision: the project “Reality Shirley”, of Brazilian Portugal-based director Stella Carneiro. Maintaining its commitment to the local community, Pustnik and its alumni will also continue to host free filmmaking workshops for local youth.

Further details about the writers and their projects, the guests and other Pustnik initiatives will be available on www.pustnik.com closer to the residency dates.
