A universal story of isolation and belief
At once intimate and epic, The Man Who Desalinated the Sea follows a modern-day Robinson Crusoe — a man who withdraws from the world and vanishes into a hidden corner of Europe. Blending the immediacy of documentary with the lyricism of fiction, the film explores solitude, faith, and the fragile boundary between what is seen and what is believed.
Early recognition on the festival circuit
The project has already gained attention, winning the Baltic Pitching Forum and being shortlisted at FEST Pitching and other prestigious international pitching platforms. With this strong momentum, the film is positioned as a festival highlight and a global conversation piece.
Director’s vision
“We are working on a film about human faith, about war and peace, about the importance of the ability to create miracles in the midst of everyday life. This story is about the tension between skepticism and wonder — what it means to face something you cannot explain,” says writer- director Zurab Dzhidzhilava.
Filming across Europe
Production is underway at multiple locations stretching from Lithuania to Georgia. While exact sites are kept undisclosed to preserve the mystery and atmosphere of the story, this geographical span underscores the film’s ambition and universality.
