Unifrance releases its annual report analyzing the circulation of French immersive works abroad.

Launched in 2018, the report about the export of immersive works is Unifrance's “youngest.” Over the years, it has tracked the circulation of French creations outside our borders, revealing a sector in continual flux – as well as the paucity of existing or accessible sales and consumption data.

All the more reason to continue with this study year after year, and which characterizes the indicators for 2024. If the latter followed a downward trend compared with 2023, this was due to the current impossibility of accounting for a large proportion of exports of immersive works, since, in reality, French creation remains at the heart of the global productions on offer. On the one hand, platforms seemed to be investing less than in the past, while physical venues, heavily impacted during and after the pandemic, began regaining momentum. Practically absent before, immersive Projection & FullDome would account for almost a third of French annual sales in 2024.

As far as festivals are concerned, 2024 was a golden year for France, which came away with a number of top awards from major events. Although the panorama of festivals offering XR works is constantly changing, French works continue to be highly regarded by foreign selectors.

This report is presented in a new format. In addition to updating the classification of creative formats, the structure has been reorganized and made more coherent: it begins with a commentary highlighting the trends of 2024, enriched by the shared experiences of industry professionals gathered during in-depth interviews; this is followed by graphs and tables tracking the evolution of indicators since the study was launched in 2017, and divided into three main themes – analysis of works, analysis of geographical areas and analysis of buyers.
