FNE at Berlinale 2026: Competition: Yellow Letters / Gelbe Briefe (Germany/France/Turkey)
Region 14-02-2026BERLIN: The German/ French/Turkish coproduction Yellow Letters / Gelbe Briefe directed by German Turkish filmmaker Ilker Catak screens in the main competition of the Berlinale. The film is a politically charged drama that ultimately that is sure to be one of the most talked-about titles of the festival.
BERLIN: At the 2026 edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, director Padraic McKinley presented his historical drama The Weight, an ambitious period film starring Ethan Hawke, Russell Crowe and Julia Jones. The film had previously premiered at the Sundance Film Festival before arriving in Berlin for its European presentation, attracting attention for its combination of survival adventure and character-driven storytelling set during the Great Depression.
BERLIN: The 2026 edition of the Berlin International Film Festival featured a special gala screening of the American crime drama The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, written and directed by Noah Segan. The film had its international premiere at the festival following its debut earlier in the year at the Sundance Film Festival, where it first attracted attention for its nostalgic portrait of New York City and its eccentric inhabitants.
BERLIN: American filmmaker Lance Hammer returned to the Berlina Film Festival’s main competition with the UK USA coproduction Queen at Sea, a drama exploring aging, family responsibility, and the fragile boundaries between love and autonomy.
BERLIN: The film Nina Roza a coproduction between Canada, Italy, Bulgaria and Belgium directed by Genevieve Dulude-de Celles screened in competition at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival. The film was supported by the Bulgarian National Film Centre. Ginger Light is the Bulgarian coproducer.
BERLIN: Director Beth de Araujo’s drama Josephine (USA) screened at the 76th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, in the main competition. The film, which had its international premiere in Berlin after debuting at the Sundance Film Festival, is a deeply personal project for the filmmaker, blending autobiographical elements with a fictional narrative about childhood trauma and family response.
BERLIN: Bulgarian minority coproduction Nina Roza by Geneviève Dulude-de Celles got the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay in the main competition of the 76th Berlin IFF. Meanwhile, Czech/Slovak If Pigeons Turn to Gold by Pepa Lubojacki received the Berlinale Documentary Award.
BERLIN: The head of the Georgian National Film Center (GNFC) Mamuka Bliadze and the general director of the Cinema Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ARKA) Rashad Azizov have signed a memorandum of cooperation at the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Berlin.
BERLIN: Romanian/Bulgarian Atlas of the Universe by Paul Negoescu has been acquired by Berlin-based Pluto Film ahead of its world premiere in Berlinale’s Generation Kplus. This is the first Romanian majority coproduction ever selected for Berlinale’s Generation.
BERLIN: Ştefan Bradea and Monica Felea of Bad Unicorn (Romania) will be presented with the European Film Market Distribution Award at the EFM kick-off event on 11 February 2026.
