CANNES: Croatian/Bulgarian/Slovenian/French The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent by Nebojša Slijepčević won the Palme d’or for Short Film in the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, held 14 – 25 May 2024. The US film Anora by Sean Baker received the Palme d’or in the main competition.

CANNES: The Malta Film Commission hosted a Cannes launch party for the second edition of the Mediterrane Film Festival, which will be held from 22 to 30 June. The festival is organised by the Malta Film Commission under the theme Unity through Film.

CANNES: French sales agent Salaud Morisset has acquired Estonian film director Anna Hints’s latest short film, Sauna Day / Sannapäiv, co-directed together with Indian director Tushar Prakash. The film will have its world premiere on 19 May, 20:00 at Miramar, in the Special Screenings – Short Films section of the 63rd Critics’ Week (Semaine de la Critique), held 15 – 23 May 2024 within the Cannes Film Festival (14 – 25 May 2024).

BUCHAREST: Romanian actor Emanuel Pârvu is making his debut in Cannes as a director after playing in Cristian Mungiu’s Best Director-awarded Graduation / Bacalaureat (2016). Pârvu’s third directorial work Three Kilometers to the End of the World / Trei kilometri până la capătul lumii has been added to the Competition of the 77th Cannes Film Festival (14 – 25 May 2024).

PARIS: Films by Lithuanian Eglė Razumaitė and Croatian Nebojša Slijepčević have been selected for the Short Film Competition of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, while a film from Czech student Pola Kazak will run in the La Cinef competition.

BUCHAREST: Three Romanian productions, one Lithuanian production and one Croatian minority coproduction have been added to the Official Selection of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held 14 – 25 May 2024.

TALLINN: Anna Hints and Tushar Prakash's short fiction film Sauna Day / Sannapäiv will have its world premiere in the Special Screenings – Short Films section of the 63rd Critics’ Week (Semaine de la Critique), which will be held 15 – 23 May 2024 within the Cannes Film Festival (14 – 25 May 2024).

WARSAW: The Girl with the Needle, which was shot mostly in Poland by Swedish director Magnus von Horn, will compete for the Palm d’Or in the 77th Cannes Film Festival’s Competition.

SKOPJE: The Greek/Macedonian coproduction Kyuka – Before Summer’s End by writer/director Kostis Charamountanis will open the 2024 Cannes’s parallel section ACID, run by France’s Association for the Diffusion of Independent Cinema.

BERLIN: The awards of the 74th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival (15 – 25 February 2024), were announced on 24 February 2024. The Golden Bear for Best Film went to Dahomey directed by Mati Diop.
