SAN SEBASTIAN: Nataša Bučar, Chris Marchich and Edith Sepp were elected for the new board of EFAD (European Film Agency Directors association) during the General Assembly meeting organised in San Sebastian on 25 September 2023.

BUDAPEST: Hungarian media and social networks are busy reporting that Johnny Depp is currently shooting in Hungary Modi, a film about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, in which Budapest stands in for Paris in the 1910s. The Hungarian shooting of the film starring Riccardo Scamarcio, Pierre Niney and Al Pacino is handled by Proton Cinema.

TBILISI: The Georgian/French/Bulgarian coproduction Citizen Saint directed by Tinatin Kajrishvili has been selected as Georgia’s candidate for the 96th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category.

SKOPJE: Australian-Macedonian director Goran Stolevski’s third feature Housekeeping for Beginners / Domakinstvo za pocetnici has been selected as North Macedonia’s candidate for the 96th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a coproduction between North Macedonia, Poland, Croatia, Serbia and Kosovo.

TRIESTE: When East Meets West, the industry platform of the Trieste Film Festival, has opened the call of submissions for the 2024 Co-Production Forum, Last Stop Trieste and This is IT! WEMW 2024 will be held 21 - 24 January 2024 and the Trieste Film Festival 19 – 27 January 2024.

The sneak preview include new works from Ukraine, Netherlands, Belgium and Mexico. According to Festival Director Tiina Lokk, all four films deal with highly topical and relevant issues that affect and connect us all here and now. "A sharp social perspective will also characterise the rest of the main competition programme, which will provide a cross-section of today's major issues. I believe we have put together a very strong and interesting programme of auteur films of which we can be proud." she said.
