BUCHAREST: Romanian director Alina Grigore is currently in preproduction with her sophomore feature Final Deliberation / Juriul, starring Academy Award–winner Melissa Leo alongside Romanian actors Vlad Ivanov and Dana Rogoz. Gabi Suciu of Romania’s Atelier de Film is producing.

ZAGREB: The shooting of the Sci-Fi fantasy thriller Štriguni (working title) by Croatian director/screenwriter Aldo Tardozzi has started in Završje (Istria).

LJUBLJANA: The best new short animated films from Central and Eastern Europe are running in the Main Competition of the 22nd Animateka Festival, taking place in Ljubljana from 1 to 7 December 2025. 

The gripping drama Serafima by acclaimed director Veiko Õunpuu tells a story of moral choices and survival under authoritarianism in Soviet Estonia in the 1960s. It is a tale of love poisoned by fear, violence, and emotional trauma. The leading roles in the film – based on award winning writer Vahur Afanasjev’s novel Serafima and Bogdan – are played by Estonian actor Priit Võigemast and Georgian actress Tinatin Dalakishvili who is known to the wider public from the Netflix film Extraction 2.
