WARSAW: The Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has announced its decision to remove Magdalena Sroka as the Director of the Polish Film Institute. Earlier the same day the Board of PISF found that the Ministry has no legal reasons to remove the head of the Institute.

PRAGUE: The Bosnia and Herzegovina/Czech/Slovenian/German/Serbian coproduction Men Don’t Cry directed by Alen Drljevic opened in Czech cinemas on 3 October 2017. The film is distributed by Aerofilms in cooperation with the Czech Television and KVIFF Distribution.

The 19th edition of the Bratislava International Film Festival will welcome one of the most distinctive European actors and a unique director JEAN-MARC BARR, who has received world recognition thanks to his cooperation with the controversial Danish director Lars von Trier on films such as Europa, Dogville or Nymphomaniac, and especially as the star of Luc Besson’s hit The Big Blue. In Bratislava, Jean-Marc Barr will receive the festival’s own Award for Artistic Excellence in World Cinema. On this occasion, Mr. Barr will personally present the selection of films screened as part of the Tribute section as well as his latest film, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi Grain.

JIHLAVA: The Jihlava IDFF is taking the Audience Award to a new level. The winner of the Short Joy section of documentary short films will be chosen by audiences streaming the films online and voting before the festival opens on 24 October 2017.

LJUBLJANA: The Slovenian youth comedy Let Him Be a Basketball Player directed by Boris Petkovič topped the box office chart in Slovenia in its third week in release, distributed by Fivia.

JIHLAVA: Eighteen documentary producers from 16 European countries plus Morocco have been selected to participate in the sixth edition of the Jihlava IDFF Emerging Producers programme, running 24-28 October 2017.

On the 6th September 2017, The Polish Film Institute in cooperation with The Warsaw Film Festival opened the application form for a pitching session in the frame of Pitch & Meet. Warsaw Coproduction Meetings. The submissions were open to Polish and international filmmakers.

Selected film projects will be presented to Polish and international members of the film industry (producers, festival programmers, distributors, sales agents, etc.). From the film projects presented at the pitching session Polish and international jury members will select one winning project that will be granted with a prize of 100 000 Euro for the further production.

 Members of the jury:

- Amanda Livanou – film producer, alumni of the Sundance Producers Lab in Utah, USA;

- Lenka Tyrpakova – programmer of  The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival;

- Andreas Struck – scriptwriter, curator of Panorama at Berlinale;

- Michał Oleszczyk – translator and film critic, Artistic Director of Gdynia Film Festival (2013-2016).

For this year’s edition of  Pitch & Meet project the following films were qualified:

Pitch & Meet. Warsaw Co-production Meetings will take place in a frame of the Warsaw Film Festival between 20th and 21st October 2017 and is an international industry event, addressed both to the Polish and international filmmakers. It allows to present the film projects to the Polish and international film professionals as well as gives an opportunity to exchange the ideas and network in the frame of “one on one” meetings.

WARSAW: Eight international projects will compete for a 100,000 EUR prize at the Warsaw Coproduction Meetings 2017, held 20 and 21 October 2017, with an additional two projects presented out of competition.

WARSAW: The Polish animated series for children Agi Bagi produced by Badi Badi FX Studio, has been sold to over 60 countries in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, USA and most recently to Asia.

Austrian documentary filmmaker Andreas Horvath, who will conduct a masterclass at the Jihlava IDFF, spoke to the IDF.
