NICOSIA: The Ministry of Education and Culture in Cyprus made great efforts in 2017 to expand the country’s activities in various aspects concerning the cinema, including film production, film education and providing incentives for foreign productions. The launch of the new website Filming in Cyprus is a part of this effort.

NICOSIA: The drama Pause directed by Tonia Mishiali is currently in postproduction and is set to be completed in October 2017. This coproduction between Cyprus and Greece was selected for the 52nd Karlovy Vary IFF Works in Progress (30 June – 8 July 2017).

NICOSIA: The British short film Wednesday with Goddard directed by Nicolas Menard was awarded best film in the International Competition of the 16th Countryside Animafest Cyprus Views of the World Festival, which came to a close on 30 June 2017.

PAPHOS: The big winner of the 12th Cyprus International Film Festival Golden Aphrodite in Paphos was I Still Hide to Smoke directed by Rayhana Obermeyer, taking seven of the festival’s top prizes.

NICOSIA: The 12th Cyprus International Film Festival Golden Aphrodite opened 14 June 2017 in the European Capital of Culture 2017 Paphos, where it will run through 24 June.

NICOSIA: Eleven animated films from Cyprus will screen in the National Competition of the 16th Countryside Animafest Cyprus – Views of the World festival, which will take place in Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia from 24 to 30 June 2017.

NICOSIA: The second annual Paphos International Film Festival (PIFF), which runs 16-18 June 2017, will screen short films and documentaries from around the world, as well as run workshops, master classes and lectures by film professionals in the Mediterranean coastal city of Paphos.

NICOSIA: The 12th Cyprus International Film Festival, which will run from 14 to 24 June in Paphos, has opened a call to script writers of short films to submit their work for a special festival project. Prior to the festival a jury will select the most suitable short films to be filmed over a two-day period, then edited and screened during the festival.

NICOSIA: Cypriot director Adonis Florides’ production Rosemarie won the Glocal Images Best Film Award at the 15th Cyrus Film Days International Festival held in Limassol and Nicosia from 27 April to 6 May 2017.
