BITOLA: Six films from FNE partner countries have been selected for the Official Competition of the 47th International Cinematographers’ Film Festival Manaki Brothers, which will be held in Bitola, North Macedonia, from 19 to 25 September 2026.

SKOPJE: Acclaimed Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska is developing her eighth feature film Petra Doesn’t Want to Die (Anatomy of Masculinity). This contemporary feminist drama is connected to the world and themes of her 2019 Berlinale competition title God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya /Gospod postoi, imetoi’ e Petrunija (produced by Macedonian Sisters and Brother Mitevski Production, Belgium’s Entre Chien et Loup, Slovenia’s Vertigo, Croatia’s Terminal 3).

SKOPJE: The Swiss film Tristan Forever directed by Tobias Nölle and Laurent Bonardo received the Onion Award for Best Film in the Main Competition at the 17th MakeDox Creative Documentary Film Festival (20 – 27 August 2026).

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Arben Thaçi has started shooting his second feature film Ajal, produced through the Tetovo-based company Arbfilm. The contemporary drama explores mortality, family ties, faith, belonging, and moral responsibility against the landscape of the Šar Mountain region.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Igor Aleksov has officially started shooting his sophomore feature The Secret of the Bare Hill / Tajnata na Goliot Rid on 6 August 2026 in Skopje. The film is a coproduction between North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Serbia.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Marjan Gavrilovski has started shooting his third feature film Ants / Mravki, a darkly comic drama supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency.

SKOPJE: Acclaimed Macedonian director Milcho Manchevski’s documentary Good People / Dobri lugje will have its world premiere in the Competition Programme – Documentary Film of the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival (14 - 21 August 2026).

OHRID: Czech/Slovak Broken Voices / Sbormistr by Ondřej Provazník won the Large Wave Award for Best Film at the 9th edition of the Beach Film Festival. The festival was held in Ohrid, North Macedonia, from 22 to 26 July 2026, supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency.

SKOPJE: The Macedonian documentary The Tale of Silyan  / Siljan, directed by acclaimed Macedonian director Tamara Kotevska, has received two nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be announced in September 2026.

SKOPJE: Sedat Sulejmani has been appointed the new Minister of Culture and Tourism in North Macedonia at the 112th session of Parliament, held on 13 July 2026 and dedicated to the government reshuffle.
