BUDAPEST: Gentle Monster / Jámbor szörnyeteg, the story of a woman bodybuilder directed by Anna Nemes and László Csuja, completed the first phase of production on 9 December 2020. Shooting will resume in the second half of January 2021.

BUDAPEST: The Berlinale winning director Ildikó Enyedi is finishing post-production on her first English language feature, The Story of My Wife / A feleségem története, after delays caused by the COVID pandemic.

BUDAPEST: Welcome to Chechnya by David France won the 17th Verzio International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, which took place 10 - 22 November 2020. The festival moved to an online format this year. More than 20,000 viewers attended the screenings, which exceeded the number of previous Verzió festival attendees.

BUDAPEST: The British/Hungarian coproduction Mrs Harris Goes to Paris is currently filming in Hungary until the end of November 2020. The film will move on to Paris and London to shoot additional scenes. Anthony Fabian's comedy is the newest adaptation of Paul Gallico's bestseller set in the 1950s, about an English cleaning lady who falls in love with a Dior dress and goes to Paris to buy the expensive garment.

BUDAPEST: The National Film Institute - Hungary launched Filmio, a platform streaming Hungarian films, on 19 November 2020. More than 220 productions are available on the site, including 160 feature films, animations, documentaries and television films.

BUDAPEST: New restrictive measures came into force on 11 November 2020 in Hungary. This is the second time in 2020 that the Hungarian film theatres had to close because of the pandemic. The cinemas stopped screening films on 16 March and reopened in mid-June. The duration of the shutdown is indefinite, but cinemas will suspend operation for at least 30 days.

BUDAPEST: Fanni Szilagyi completed the production of her first feature film at the end of October. Ice Cream Could Be Dangerous / Veszélyes lehet a fagyi is a magic realist drama about a pair of identical twins. Éva and Adél have become estranged from each other, but the unexpected appearance of a man jolts them out of their routine behaviour.

BUDAPEST: New COVID-19 restrictions have been introduced, limiting the capacity in Hungarian cinemas to one-third. Since the reopening at the end of June, wearing masks has been compulsory.

BUDAPEST: The National Film Institute - Hungary (NFI) has distributed almost 23 m EUR / 8.32 b HUF in film grants in the first 10 months of 2020. The production grants were distributed to feature films, documentaries, animated films, short films, and TV feature films.

BUDAPEST: Szilárd Bernáth's first feature film Larry completed filming on 30 September 2020. The story of a young rapper growing up in a tough neighbourhood stars rising young actor Benett Vilmányi.
