Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival competition programs have begun

The Official Selection and First Feature Competition programs are heating up at the 25th edition of PÖFF

The festival’s main competition programme contains seven world premieres, ten international premieres and two European premieres. Nineteen films will be screened in competition, with three films out of competition. It’s a packed lineup featuring a couple of legends, a raft of returning Black Nights favourites and several soon-to-be-stars, from all corners of the cinematic globe. Two international premieres will come to PÖFF after having their world premieres with our friends at Seville European Film Festival.

The First Feature Competition line-up includes ten world premieres, nine international premieres and one European premiere, among the slate of 20 debuts. It’s a diverse, global programme of real contrasts and extremes, including everything from musicals to animation, thrillers and dark comedies, as well as a good dose of surrealism and surprisingly many funerals.

    First Feature Competition

Just Film's International Youth Competition has one more world premiere. This is the only local film in the section this year, a comedy Tree of Eternal Love.

Filmmakers are the new generation of local cinema Meel Paliale and Urmet Piiling, who have collaborated in filmmaking since primary school. Countless shorts and music videos have lead them to discover their unique style that is spiced with self-irony, humour, and influences from the big names of world cinema.

The short film and animation festival taking place from November 16 to 24 will screen 16 cassettes with 250 films.

    INDUSTRY@TALLINN & BALTIC EVENT
    EUROPEAN FILM FORUM TALLINN

The European Film Forum Tallinn 2021, a half day hybrid summit of C-suite debates, case studies, and showcases on the most pressing topics for the European film, television, and content industry, takes place on 22 November at Nordic Hotel Forum as well as online on industry.poff.ee

EFFT 21 will take a close look on the current industry situation as Europe's audiovisual, content and tech industries are standing at crossroads. On the surface, it's a time of radical change and realignment. Long into 2021, the industry still strives to cope with the effects of the COVID19 pandemic and the crashing of the indie value chain. On the other hand, as paradoxical it seems, the industry is heading towards unprecedented abundance.

PS! You do not need accreditation to attend EFFT'21. Just tune in on November 22 at 15:00 (EET) at industry.poff.ee

She has created “What Went Wrong?” as another piece of her auto-fiction puzzle that this time tries to detangle past relationships, which failed to move forward together with her.

    REBELS WITH A CAUSE
"ME AND THE BEASTS" MAKES WAVES

In the film "Me and the Beasts" which is having its world premiere in the Rebels With A Cause programme debutant Nico Manzano (who is also the DOP) defines with a very personal touch the musical creative process and how an artist could focus on his own job (world).

Accompanying the young musician, the director creates a visually stunning and enigmatically fascinating tale that could work both as a diagnosis for contemporary loneliness of the current generation or a socio-political parable about the extreme situation in the country.

We are thrilled to share exciting news about this title, as per Variety's article:
Luis Renart’s Canary Islands-based Bendita Film Sales has swooped on one of the big winners at Ventana Sur last year: Venezuelan Nico Manzano’s hotly courted debut feature “Me and the Beasts.”
