PLZEN: Fugue / Útěk, a Polish/Czech/Swedish coproduction by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, will screen in the 32nd edition of the Finále Plzeň Film Festival. The most important Czech national film festival, presenting contemporary domestic audiovisual production, runs from 11 to 16 April 2019. Sales agent Alpha Violet sold the film to numerous territories, including Lithuania, China, Denmark and Canada.

The film’s main character Alicja suffers from memory loss and has rebuilt her own free-spirited way of life. Two years later, she returns to her family and unwillingly resumes her role as wife, mother and daughter. Her estranged husband and son do not recognise this woman, who looks familiar, but behaves like a stranger. Feelings of alienation, love and revelations rekindle her interior flame.

The film was produced by MD4 in coproduction with Axman Production and Common Ground Pictures and supported by the Polish Film Institute, Eurimages, the Czech Film Fund, Odra-FilmMazowiecki i Warszawski Fundusz Filmowy, Magic Lab and Film i Väst. It was also supported by the Czech Film Center.

Fugue was released in the Czech Republic by Pilot Film on 6 December 2019. It received three awards at the Polish Feature Film Festival, including the award for best first or second film, and won Best Feature Film at the Sitges IFF.
