Out of the City was in production for a long time and the end of principal shooting was announced in August 2019, but the postproduction and premiere were delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. To help with the final stages of postproduction, the director launched a crowdfunding campaign, where he seeks up to 40,000 EUR for the audiovisual postproduction. People can send their support until 25 June 2021.
The film focuses on a family of city people who found their happiness in Bohemian forests, living in a small village ever since. Tomáš Vorel Jr., Lucie Šteflová, Milan Šteindler, Tomáš Hanák and Boleslav Polívka are coming back to star.
Out of the City saw a satisfactory success with 275,000 admissions and popularity from its television broadcast after its 2000 premiere, while the sequel To the Forest / Cesta do lesa (Vorelfilm) had only 27,000 admissions 12 years later. Yet it remains “a heart project” for the director/screenwriter Tomáš Vorel and his son Tomáš Vorel Jr., who plays a major role. “I wrote the script based on stories I lived through or heard of from farmers, foresters and hunters,” explains Vorel.
The Way Home is produced by Bontonfilm Studios and the Czech Television, with support from Plzeňský kraj.
