TALLINN: According to Statistics Estonia, in 2014 the country recorded the highest number of cinema admissions since the country’s restoration of independence in 1992. The overall number of tickets sold was 2.6 million, corresponding to nearly two per capita. The number of admissions has grown every year over the last 9 years.

The growth is due to the increasing number of screens, falling ticket prices and a growing faith in domestic fare. The average ticket price in 2014 was 4.9 EUR and the average spend on a cinema trip was 10.9 EUR per visitor. The gross annual box office reached 12.8m EUR. Leading the charts were Frozen, directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and Rio 2, directed by Carlos Saldanha.
