Experimental Collage-film Celebrates 111 Years of Estonian Cinema

    TALLINN: Madwomen - To Be a Sparrow Not a Canary directed by Sten Haljak and Johannes Lõhmus will have its premiere on 6 May 2023 in Tartu, the birthplace of Estonian cinema. The film celebrates the 111th anniversary of Estonian cinema by creating a story from film footage produced at Tallinnfilm and Eesti Telefilm between 1960 and 1969.

    The short film, which was made with the support of the Estonian Film Institute and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, used material from 178 original films and it was made in cooperation with the Estonian Film Institute's heritage department, the National Film Archive and the ERR archive, according to ERR.

    Other screenings are set for 10 May at the Mustvee Cultural Center in Tartu, on 13 May at the Sõprus cinema in Tallinn, and on 25 May at Artis cinema in Tallinn.

    The film will be exclusively available on the Arkaader streaming platform starting 10 May 2023.
