GRANTS: Latvian Film Centre Funds Two Latvian Russian Films


    RIGA: The National Film Centre of Latvia awarded two grants under its new cofinancing tender announced in May 2014.

    Both of winning projects are eligible for funding up to 20%.

    Latvian Direct Contact Media's and Russian Enjoy Movie's feature film Honest People (Godigie cilveki) is eligible for cofinancing up to 74,000 EUR. Honest People is a strained drama about two brothers: a physics teacher and a criminal. Itwill be directed by Russia's Georgiy Malkov and Latvia's Uldis Cipsts.

    Boheme International's (LV) and Amalgama Studio's (RUS) mini-series drama Heroine of the Day (Gavilniece), also a Russo-Latvian project, is eligible for up to 61,097 EUR. Heroine of the Day is based on the biography of Russian ballerina Olga Spessivtseva. The four-part drama will star Latvian actors Andris Keiss, Juris Strenga and Gundars Abolins. It is estimated that the production will employ up to 70 creative professionals from the Latvian side.
