RIGA: The long animated film My Love Affair with Marriage directed by New York-based Latvian animator Signe Baumane has been released by Tamasa Distribution in theatres across France in June 2023. This coproduction between Latvia, Luxembourg and USA has screened at more than 80 film festivals around the world since its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2022.

The film was released on 7 June 2023 in 24 French cities, from Tourcoing at the very north of France to Marseille and Nice in the south, including Paris as well.

My Love Affair with Marriage tells the story of its young, Soviet born protagonist Zelma, who has grown up surrounded by a plethora of stereotypes about how a woman is expected to behave and act. The film has musical elements and also dwells into biology, seeking to decipher human neuron connections.

This is the second film in Baumane's planned trilogy, following Rocks in My Pockets, produced by Rocks in My Pockets LLC, USA in coproduction with Studio Locomotive. The concluding film of the trilogy will be Karmic Knot produced by Studio Locomotive, a project that has just received a production grant from the National Film Centre of Latvia.

My Love Affair with Marriage was produced by Latvia's Studio Locomotive, Luxembourg's Antevita Films and The Marriage Project LLC from the USA. New Europe Film Sales is handling the sales.
