The film was produced by Munk Studio, a project of the Polish Filmmakers Association that supports young filmmakers in the transition between film school and professional filmmaking. The Munk Studio has become one of the most successful projects of the SFP and is widely admired throughout Europe as a model for promoting young talent.
The Silver Lion went to an immigration drama set partly in Rwanda, Birds Are Singing in Kigali directed by Joanna Kos Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze. Awards were also given in the Short Film and Visions Apart categories. There was also a special event focused on the 70th anniversary of Polish animation.
The festival put an increased emphasis on industry this year with series of industry panels and discussions and a major market guide.
