FESTIVALS: FNE at Istanbul IFF: Press

Press had its world premiere at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival in October 2010, and was released in Turkish cinemas on 18 March 2011. The film received the Special Jury Award at Antalya, and in March 2010 it won the Scriptwriting Award, the Newcomer Director Award, and the Newcomer Actor Award at the Ankara Film Festival.

Press was shot by HD camera. The film tells the story of the Gundem Newspaper's problems in Turkey in the 1990's. The story is situated in Diyarbakir and the world of press people. The Kurdish diffusions are threatened that day, and it is an important issue for the Turkish press.

Press is director Sedat Yilmaz's first film, and is cast with a group of non-professional actors. This film is seen as the latest example of Kurdish films in Turkish film industry.

The film is produced by a new company, Karincalar Film (www.karincalaryapim.com). It is distributed by Tiglon (www.tiglon.com.tr).
