PLZEN: Juraj Nvota’s tragicomic family film Hostage, based on a screenplay by the famous Slovak author Peter Pišťánek, will be screened within the 28th edition of Finale Plzen running from 26 April to 2 May 2015.

PLZEN: Nowhere in Moravia by popular Czech actor and director Miroslav Krobot will be screened within the 28th edition of Finale Plzen running from 26 April to 2 May 2015.

PLZEN: Štěpán Altrichter’s debut feature Schmitke will be screened within the 28th edition of Finale Plzen running from 26 April to 2 May 2015.

PRAGUE: Rick McCallum and Martin Šebík from Film United, the Prague-based company which coproduced the TV series Borgia, have announced that their new project, Following the Dream/Za sny, will be a Czech-Dutch coproduction. They are planning to shoot next year.

PRAGUE: A new documentary by Petr Václav, Confession of the Forgotten/Zpověď zapomenutého, will be released theatrically by its producer Mimesis Film. The film has its Czech premiere on 2 April 2015.

PRAGUE: Czech cinematographer Miroslav Ondříček, a close collaborator of Miloš Forman, died on 28 March 2015 at the age of 80.

PRAGUE: Petr Nikolaev’s new feature Dodgeball opened in Czech cinemas on 12 March setting a record for a domestic film in 2015. The adaptation of Michael Viewegh’s bestseller has also been successful in Slovak cinemas.

PRAGUE: Two weeks after its release in the Czech Republic, the Czech-Ukrainian horror film Ghoul directed by Petr Jákl and produced by J.B.J. Films reached an attendance of 67,149 last weekend and became number one at the box office, beating American Sniper and 50 Shades of Grey. The Czech distributor for Ghoul is Bioscop.

PRAGUE: Jan Hus, one of the biggest Czech TV projects ever, wrapped shooting after 63 days. The trilogy is using the new digital capture technology ARRI AMIRA, especially adapted to handheld shooting.

PRAGUE: The Way Out by Petr Vaclav was awarded seven prizes including Best Film at the 22nd edition of the Czech Lions Awards. The ceremony took place in Prague on 21 February 2015.
