WARSAW: The Wajda Studio (www.wajdastudio.pl) has announced a 31 January 2012 deadline for the 2012 EKRAN Training Program for Film Professionals. Nine participant teams of three persons each will be chosen for the programme.

 The programme will focus on the creative preproduction process and script development, with each team composed of a director (or writer/director), writer (or co-writer), and producer, with an optional director of photography. The programme is free of charge to participants.

{mosimage}The Romanian/Irish feature documentary Off the Beaten Path, directed by Dieter Auner and produced by Cristian Mungiu (www.mobrafilm.ro), will have its theatrical release in France on 25 January 2011. Worldwide distribution is handled by Vienna based sales company EastWest Filmdistribution (www.eastwest-distribution.com). Following the French release, the film will be distributed in Estonia, Bulgaria, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.

WARSAW: The Swedish-based broadcasting company Modern Times Group (MTG, www.mtg.se) signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Latvian commercial TV operator AS Latvijas Neatkarīgā Televīzija (LNT, www.lnt.lv) in Latvia for an undisclosed cash consideration.

HELSINKI: A record 34 local films were released in Finland in 2011, taking 17% of the box office share, or 1.2 million admissions.

Amendments to the 2007 Film Act, which provided legal and institutional framework for one of the main strategic goals of our four-year National Strategic Programme for the Audiovisual Industry 2010-2014 to be implemented -boosting inward investment by introducing a tax incentives scheme which starts in January 2012.

Krakow, 11th January, 2012 - Co-produced by Polish Alvernia Studios, a star-studded thriller, "Arbitrage", which takes place in the world of New York's financial circles, premieres at the Sundance Festival.

The protagonist of "Arbitrage" is a New York businessman, Robert Miller, who faces bankruptcy due to unsuccessful investments. A series of events makes the story take a criminal turn, and Robert has to ask for help the least expected person. The financial magnate was played by Richard Gere ("Pretty Woman", "Chicago"). Among co-starring actors, there are Susan Sarandon ("Dead Man Walking", "Thelma & Louise") as his committed to charity wife and Tim Roth ("Reservoir Dogs", "Pulp Fiction") as a determined detective trailing the protagonist. The director and scriptwriter is Nicholas Jarecki, the director of photography is Yorick Le Saux.

The world premiere of "Arbitrage" will take place during upcoming Sundance Festival (19th to 29th January). "Arbitrage" is yet another American-Polish production realized by Alvernia Studios, after "Vamps", a comedy directed by Amy Heckerling.
