International Academy of Document Dragon Forum opens call for 2012 year edition.

The schedule of Dragon Forum 2012:

· script session in Warsaw, from 24th till 27th of January

· individual project development consultations in February and March

· production session in Berlin, in April

· pitching in Krakow, in the beginning of June, during Krakow Film Festival.

· co-production session in Leipzig, in October, during the International Festival for Documentary and Animated Films

The course is dedicated to the filmmakers, having developed idea of documentary film for the international audience, who want to access the international co-production market.

Application requires:

• short description of the film project

• initial trailer

• information about authors

• initial budget

• estimated financial plan

Workshops are held in small group, conducted by Polish and international experts. The workshops language is English. Finished projects will be presented to commissioning editors from major European and international TV stations and funds as well as producers, distributors and sales agents, who will come especially for Dragon Forum, held in Krakow in first days of June 2012. For certain selected projects participation in Co-production Meetings at Dok Leipzig is foreseen.

Dragon Forum is:

• creative meeting in the international documentary team

• presentation of the project on the international market

• entry to the European documentary filmmakers network

The 15^th annual Tallinn Black Nights presents 5 Czech films to the Estonian public

Prague, 21 November 2011 - Five contemporary Czech films will be presented at the international film festival in Tallinn, Estonia. They will be represented in three non-competitive sections. The 15^th annual Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Baltics and is also the organiser of the Baltic Event coproduction market and the Black Market film market.

Estonian audiences can look forward to five coproduction films in the non-competitive FORUM, PANORAMA and 15 SELECTED TITLES sections. In the Panorama section films that predominantly won awards in the last year and which present a view of current trends and directions are shown. Audiences can look forward to the films Alois Nebel by director Tomáš Luňák, Martin Šulík's Gypsy and Identity Card from director Ondřej Trojan in this section.

Director Zuzana Liová's The House is among the 37 films presented in the Forum section and the 15 Selected Titles section presents films from directors that have been presented at least twice in the past at the festival in Tallinn. Director Christophe Honoré's coproduction film The Beloved fulfils this condition.

The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival offers three competition sections from the main programme through the section on documentary and feature films from Baltic states to the special Estonian competition section. In the Focus section this year the organisers focused on Icelandic cinematography and the fact that since 2008 the number of films screened has increased even in spite of the economic crisis.

The 15^th annual Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival will be taking place from 16 to 30 November 2011 and will become a unique event for international feature films, animated work and student films and films for youth. Warsaw Film Festival joined the Academy Award® film festival list. This means that the winner of the Grand Prix in the WFF's Short Films Competition will have the right to compete for the Oscar® for best short film. The organizers of the Warsaw Film Festival have received a memo to this effect signed by Jon Bloom, chair of the Academy's Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Executive Committee. "We have been consistently developing the Warsaw Film Festival for years", says Stefan Laudyn, director of the Warsaw Film Festival. "In this, we also want to be useful to the Polish and international film industry. We have been promoting debuting filmmakers for many years and the Shorts Competition, held since 2008, is the latest step in this direction. This year's workshop for Polish makers of short films, Shorts Warszawa, organized by the WFF and the CentEast Market, showed just how much filmmakers stand to gain from meeting experienced professionals. I think having a project make it to the Oscar list will further increase young Polish and international filmmakers' interest in the WFF". "This excellent news is sure to trigger even greater interest in the Warsaw Film Festival among shorts filmmakers all over the world, and will have a positive impact on the standard of our Shorts Competition", adds Bartek Pulcyn, curator of the Shorts Competition at the Warsaw Film Festival. Ljubljana International Film Festival, among the visitors popularly known as LIFFe, is the largest and most important film festival in Slovenia. In the 21 years of its existence the Ljubljana International Film festival has opened windows onto the world cultural arena to the inhabitants of Slovenia.

LIFFe has enabled first-rate European and world film distribution, no longer entirely dependent on the market, but coexisting with it, shaping and enriching it in the long run.

Festival programme stems from the established festival texture which changes annually according to the current production, from which the finest and most compelling auctorial works are selected. The festival every year presents one or two of the worlds most visible national productions.

Last years edition of the festival presented 117 films on 281 screenings. We have hosted 46 international guests, 161 journalists and 50 000 visitors.

The most important of all festival aims is to present new authors and worlds new cinematographies but of course every year we also present well-known names of the world cinema.

The Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), which runs from 18th to 30th November 2011, has announced its full competition programmes. From established names to debut features, from festival hits to new discoveries, the competitions at PÖFF promise to deliver the very best in world cinema

With a focus on cinema for Europe and Asia, the International Competition EurAsia focuses offers a prize of 10'000EUR awarded to the winner of the Grand Prix alongside jury prizes for Best Director, Actor and Actress. Highlights of this year's competition include We Need To Talk About Kevin (Dir. Lynne Ramsay, UK) one of the most talked about films at the Cannes Festival containing a stunning central performance from Tilda Swinton as a mother dealing with the aftermath of her child's actions, and Rose (Rosa) (Dir. Wojciech Smarzowski, Poland), the lauded film about the harrowing treatment of Poles at the end of the Second World War. There'll also be the chance to enjoy The Artist (Dir. Michel Hazanavicks, France) the ode to silent cinema that has already charmed many audiences and Estonia's own Letters To Angel (Kirjad Inglile) (Dir. Sulev Keedus, Estonia). The film, about an Estonian soldier returning after the Afghan war to find himself fighting new battles, is Estonia's submission for Best Foreign Language Feature in the 2012 Academy Awards. Other countries represented in the competition include India, Kazakhstan, China and Iran. The jury are: Sergei Loznitsa (Director, Russia), Juanita Wilson (Director, Ireland), Peter Zeitlinger (Cinmeatographer, Austria) Indu Shrikent (Festival Director, India) and Peeter Urbla (Producer, Estonia).

Letters to Angel will also be screening in the Tridens Baltic Feature Film Competition which showcases the best cinema from Baltic Countries. With a prize of 5000EUR (sponsored by Tridens) for Best Film and 3200EUR (sponsored by Scottish Leader) for the film with best distribution potential it promises to be a hotly contested programme. Films include The Idiot (Idioot) (Dir. Rainer Sarnet, Estonia), a stylish adaptation of the novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and the compelling documentary The New World (Uus Maailm) (Dir. Jaan Tootsen, Estonia) and a group of activists who attempt to change their corner of the world. There'll also be the chance to see How Are You Doing Rudolf Ming? (Teb Klajas, Rudolf Ming?) (Dir. Roberts Rubins, Latvia) a documentary about a boy obsessed with films and violence and The Book Smugglers (Dir. Jeremiah Cullinane, Ireland/Latvia) about 19th century Lithuanian book smugglers, who managed to save their language from extinction. The jury will consist of Dita Rietuma (Journalist/Lecturer, Latvia), Xavier Garcia Puerto (Festival Director, Spain) and Laufey Gudjónsdóttir (Film Consultant, Iceland).

The North American Independent Film Competition examines esoteric American films that have good potential for distribution. The programme will include Martha May Marcy Marlene (Dir. Sean Durkin, USA), which gained acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival for the strong central performance from Elizabeth Olsen (the younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) as a girl suffering from paranoia and delusions after escaping from a cult. Other films include 50/50 (Dir. Jonathan Levine, USA), a painfully honest comedy starring Joseph Inception Gordon-Levitt stars as a man diagnosed with cancer who deals with his fate with the help of his best friend played by Seth Rogan, and Win Win (Dir. Thomas McCarthy, USA), director Thomas McCarthy's follow up to acclaimed films The Station Agent and The Visitor which stars Paul Giamatti as an attorney who attempts to keep his practice afloat by acting as the legal caretaker of an elderly client. The jury will consist of Gabor Greiner (Sales Agent, Germany), Youngjoo SUH (Producer, South Korea) and Peeter Rebane (Director, Estonia)

The call for Polish Academy of Document in Moscow has ended. We received many submissions, so the choice was not easy. Zero, the new feature film project by Gyula Nemes (Lost World, the Best Short Documentary in Karlovy Vary 2008 and My One and Onlies in competition in Venice Critics' Week 2006) is going to made in German - Czech - Hungarian coproduction. The project is supported by the Czech Motion Picture Fund (200.000 Euros) and Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (70.000 Euros for development). The producer of the film is Gabor Dettre, the Hungarian director living in Bruxelles, the co-producers are the Czech Jiří Konečný (endorfilm) and the German Eike Goreczka (42film). The script is written by Tamás Beregi (My One and Onlies, The History of Aviation, Egill, Hier), the DOP is Balázs Dobóczi.

The story is a grotesque drama of one of the most pressing environmental problem of our time, the bees' quick disappearing from our planet. The main protagonist is a beekeeper who starts a fearless fight against the consumer society as an anarchist terrorist.

The film has participiated at Europe's several film markets and workshops, like Cinelink, Connection Cottbus and éQuinoxe Germany. The development was supported by the former Hungarian Motion Picture Fund and the Media Program. The location scouting and the casting is being held in these months in Czech Republic and Germany.

The film is produced by the Hungarian Playtime Ltd. and as the Hungarian financial background is secured, will be shot in next summer.

Bratislava IFF Presenting Slovak films

In its 16th edition, Bratislava International Film Festival (Nov. 4-9, 2011) traditionally presents Slovak films: Besides the films screened within the International Competition of First and Second Films, the Panorama section and the Filmmaker's Tribute section, the Slovak full-length and short films produced in the last year, are presented in the program section Made in Slovakia.

Three Slovak Films in the Program of Thessaloniki IFF

International Film Festival Thessaloniki presents three Slovak films in the official festival programme: The House (Dom, by Zuzana Liová, SK – CZ 2011) and Alois Nebel (by Tomáš Luňák, CZ – SK – DE, 2011) are included in the International Competition of the festival. Gypsy (Cigán, by Martin Šulík, SK – CZ) is presented in the section Open Horizons.

Slovak Film Week in Budapest:

Three significant events presenting Slovak films will take place in Hungary during November 7 - 13, 2011. The Slovak Film Week will present six Slovak films in Budapest and the traditional Film Seminar for the students of Slovak Language will take place both in Budapest and the Hungarian town Szeged.
