LJUBLJANA: Srđan Golubović's social drama Father / Otac / Oče will be screened in the competition of the 23rd Festival of Slovenian Film in Ljubljana (6-11 October 2020). This Serbian/French/German/Croatian/Slovenian/Bosnian coproduction has already been awarded at international film festivals, including Berlin (Ecumenical Jury Award, Panorama Audience Award), FEST (Best Actor, FEDEORA Jury Award) and Pula Film Festival (Arena Award for the Best Actor, Audience Award).

LJUBLJANA: Jani Sever's Antigone – How Dare We! / Antigona – Kako si upamo! will be screened in the competition of the 23rd Festival of Slovenian Film in Ljubljana (6-11 October 2020). This political docudrama is based on the play The Three Lives of Antigone, written by a well-known and controversial Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek.

LJUBLJANA: Only three Slovenian feature films and four long documentaries will be screened in the competition of the 23rd Festival of Slovenian Film, which will run from 6 to 11 October 2020.

LJUBLJANA: Shooting has started on the black comedy Grandpa Goes South / Dedek gre na jug, directed by Vinci Vogue Anžlovar. So far the film is a coproduction between Slovenia, North Macedonia and Croatia, but a Czech coproducer is also expected.

PORTOROŽ: The 23rd Festival of Slovenian Film (FSF), which was due for September, has been postponed to 6 - 11 October 2020 due to the COVID-19 restrictions. This hybrid edition will not take place in Portorož, as usual, but in Ljubljana, while part of the films will screen online.

PORTOROŽ: Slovenia’s national television RTV Slovenija started shooting a new television crime series Cases of Inspector Vrenko / Primeri inšpektorja Vrenka on 1 August 2020 in Maribor. It is based on a series of novels by Tomaž Zupančič, alias Avgust Demšar.

LJUBLJANA: Slovenian production companies Staragara, Studio Virc and Vertigo received 437,300 EUR in support for the development of ten feature and two short films in the latest MEDIA – Creative Europe call. All of them are Slovenian majority coproductions.

LJUBLJANA: Open-air cinemas in Slovenia are attracting large crowds while regular indoor cinemas are still under COVID-19 restrictions, limiting the maximum number of visitors to 50 people per screening. While more openings are expected, during the unpredictable situation it is impossible to confirm if all the announced open-air and drive-in cinemas will be opened as planned.

LJUBLJANA: Slovenia’s Tramal Films is coproducing Floor van der Meulen's feature Pink Moon with Dutch company Kepler film and Italy’s Nefertiti Film. The film, which received a Eurimages grant, is in preproduction. The previously planned shooting was postponed due to COVID-19 and is now scheduled for the autumn of 2020.

LJUBLJANA: The shooting of Vinci Vogue Anžlovar's melodramatic black comedy Grandpa Goes South / Dedek gre na jug, produced by A Atalanta, has been postponed until July 2020. However, the film team remains optimistic that if there is no further delay due to the COVID-19 crisis, the film will be completed in the autumn of 2021.
