SKOPJE: A total of 70 films from all over the world will be screened at the 10th Festival for Creative Documentary Film MakeDox, which kicks off in Skopje on 21 August 2019. Coproduction is the main theme of the edition, so the festival is introducing the first MakeCoProDox Forum from 25 to 27 August 2019.

BITOLA: French/Belgian/Macedonian coproduction A Mermaid in Paris / Une sirène à Paris directed by Mathias Malzieu will start shooting in North Macedonia on 30 August 2019. This debut feature is produced by French Overdrive Productions in coproduction with Belgian Entre Chien et Loup and Macedonian Sisters and Brother Mitevski.

SKOPJE: The production company Kino Oko is currently in production with Zoki Poki, a children’s TV series, which takes on the classic children’s book of the same title by Olivera Nikolova, written 56 years ago. The series supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency will air on the Macedonian Radio Television.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Stojan Vujicic is in production with his debut feature Stela, the first Macedonian feature film for children and also the first eco or green production in North Macedonia. The film is a Macedonian/Serbian/German coproduction produced by Ognen Antov through Dream Factory.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director and screenwriter Tamara Kotevska has signed with California-based company United Talent Agency, one of the world's leading talent and entertainment companies. This follows the US theatrical release of the long documentary she co-directed with Ljubomir Stefanov Honeyland / Medena zemja, which was sold by Submarine Entertainment to US distribution outfit Neon.

SKOPJE: The North Macedonia Film Agency has given 1,065,040 EUR / 65,500,000 MKD for production grants for feature, short, animation films and documentaries in the first decision of 2019.

SKOPJE: Kiril Cenevski, a unique figure in Macedonian filmmaking, director and screenwriter, the former chairman of the Union of Macedonian Film Workers and the creator of the first Macedonian feature film to have competed and won awards at international film festivals, Black Seed / Crno Seme, died in Skopje on 17 June 2019.

SKOPJE: More domestic films were released in Macedonian cinemas in 2018, but admissions to domestic films dropped drastically from 17,494 in 2017 to 7,704 in 2018. Compared to 2017, when the admissions were 17,494 and the box office was 29,746 EUR gross, there is a decrease by 125 percent and by 117 percent, respectively.

SKOPJE: The Macedonian/Serbian debut feature Second Chance / Vtora shansa directed by Marija Dzidzeva and produced with support from the North Macedonia Film Agency and Film Center Serbia, will have its world premiere at the opening of the 22nd edition of the Skopje Film Festival, set to take place in Skopje from 17 to 25 April 2019. This is the first time that the festival will open with a film by a female director.

SKOPJE: The Macedonian/Kosovan/Albanian feature film An Unforgettable Spring in Forgotten Village / Nezaboravna prolet vo zaboraveno selo by Kushtrim Bekteshi will premiere in Macedonia on 29 March 2019. Macedonian producer Sasho Pavlovski from the Skopje-based Manufaktura Production coproduced the film together with Albanian Ska-ndal Production, Kosovan Media&Film and Macedonian Skupi Festival.
