SKOPJE: Macedonian director Igor Ivanov started shooting his new feature film Homo as a coproduction between Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovenia and Kosovo on 13 March 2019. A five-week shooting schedule is planned, including more than 20 locations in Skopje.
SKOPJE: Teona Strugar Mitevska’s fifth feature film God Exists, Her Name is Petrunija / Gospod postoi, imeto i' e Petrunija has been sold by Pyramide International to Turkey, Greece, Sweden, Brazil, Romania, Poland, Hungary, China, Canada, Colombia, Italy, Austria, Denmark, Spain and Switzerland.
SKOPJE: The Macedonian/Greek coproduction The Secret Ingredient, the debut feature by Gjorce Stavreski, will premiere in Australia. Pay TV, VOD and SVOD rights were sold to the Australian national television channel SBS Australia.
SKOPJE: The Macedonian documentary Honeyland directed by Ljubo Stefanov and Tamara Kotevska was sold by Submarine Entertainment to US distribution outfit Neon. No release date has been set yet.
Macedonia saw a quieter year in 2018, but it was still a good year with international success of both feature films and documentaries, a film agency effectively supporting the development and production of numerous quality films, a growing number of coproductions and increased box office results.
GRANTS: Macedonian Film Agency Announces Second Production Grants for 2018
North Macedonia 11-12-2018SKOPJE: The Macedonian Film Agency distributed 1,694,308 EUR / 104,200,000 MKD to five feature films, including two feature films with higher budgets, one debut feature and two minority feature films with lower budgets, within the second deadline in 2018 for production grants for feature, short, animated films and documentaries.
SKOPJE: The distinguished playwright and screenwriter Goran Stefanovski passed away on 27 November 2018 after a short illness in his home in the United Kingdom, at the age of 66. He was one of the most loved and widely performed and published dramatist with many international awards to his name.
FESTIVALS: Alone at My Wedding Wins Best Film Award at Cinedays European Film Festival
North Macedonia 20-11-2018SKOPJE: The Belgian/Romanian coproduction Alone at My Wedding / Seule à mon marriage directed by Marta Bergman scooped the best film award in the official selection of the 17th Festival of European Film Cinedays, which ended on 18 November 2018.
SKOPJE: Fourteen European films will compete for the main prizes of the 17th edition of Cinedays Festival of European Film, running 8 - 18 November in Skopje. Eight films will compete in the Official Competition and six in the CineBalkan Programme.
SKOPJE: Academy award nominated Macedonian film director Milcho Manchevski started shooting his sixth feature film Willow / Vrba, produced by Banana Film, in the Macedonian village Krushevica. The shooting, which started on 25 October 2018 and will wrap at the beginning of December, will also take place in the picturesque Mariovo villages of Stavica, Dunje and Zovich, Treskavec, in the Prespa region and in different locations in Skopje.
