VARNA: Victor Bojinov’s debut feature Heights will screen in the main competition of the 36th Golden Rose National Film Festival (27 September - 4 October 2018). This Bulgarian-Macedonian coproduction supported by Eurimages is a domestic box office hit.

VARNA: Martin Makariev’s sophomore feature Attraction will screen in the main competition of the 36th Golden Rose National Film Festival (27 September-4 October 2018). This is an independent movie produced by famous actress Yana Marinova, who also co-wrote it and plays the main character.

VARNA: Maria Veselinova’s first feature film Smart Christmas will screen in the main competition of the 36th Golden Rose National Film Festival (27 September-4 October 2018). The film is a family Christmas comedy with specially designed choreography and attractive musical hits.

VARNA: A total of 17 feature films and 21 short films will be screened in the official national competition of the 36th Golden Rose National Film Festival (27 September-4 October 2018). Twelve of the feature films are supported with public funding, while five are independent projects.

VARNA: Maxim Genchev’s feature film Reviewing Inner Spaces will screen in the main competition of the 36th Golden Rose National Film Festival (27 September-4 October 2018). This independent film based on improvisation was shot by handycam during nearly 10 years.

VARNA: Val Todorov’s sophomore feature Transgression will screen in the main competition of the 36th Golden Rose National Film Festival (27 September - 4 October 2018). It is a challenging non-linear, independent film imbued with dark underground spirit and highly provocative scenes.

SOFIA: Acclaimed Bulgarian director Ivan Nichev is in postproduction with a feature film Could You Kill aka Old Men, an alarming drama about seven impoverished 30-year-old men, getting obsessed with hard physical self-training. Their collective dream is to become contract soldiers and to take part in the NATO's military missions.

VARNA: Hungarian film The Troupe by Pál Sándor was awarded the Golden Aphrodite at the 26th edition of the Love is Folly International Film Festival, organised by the Congress and Festival Centre – Varna from 24 August to 2 September 2018. For the first time the festival hosted the industry event Bulgarian Producers by the Sea, as part of the Mannheim Meeting Place (MPP).

SOFIA: Bulgarian Director Stanislav Donchev is in postproduction with his third feature film Letters from Antarctica, a deep psychological drama about a single mother incapable of confessing to her eight year-old son that his father died in a car accident. The film stars Bulgarian famous actress Irmena Chichikova.

SOFIA: Bulgarian director Kostadin Bonev is completing postproduction on his new feature film Away From the Shore (aka Wolves around Us). This Bulgarian/Ukrainian coproduction is a personal interpretation of the clash between creative people and censorship during communism.
