The 21st Annual Awards of the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA ) will take place under the traditional name of Czech Lion. After several months of negotiations between the CFTA , Petr Vachler,  the founder of Czech film awards, and a general partner brand Magnesia, the agreement on the transfer of trademarks was finally reached at the turn of the year.

The 21st annual film awards, which are for the first time organized by CFTA itself, will undergo some major changes. One of them is that ČFTA decided not to organize a nomination ceremony, which used to be held in the past editions. This year´s nominations were announced at a press conference. The prizes will be awarded on Saturday 22 February 2014 during a gala evening in the Rudolfinum concert hall in Prague, which holds more than a thousand visitors. The awards ceremony will be broadcast live by Czech TV.

Another major change in this year's film awards was the introduction of electronic voting, which Academy members had a chance to try out during the recent election for the Czech Oscar candidate. CFTA will also offer voters an option to screen the films provided by the producers through online streaming. The aim of these changes, modeled after the European Film Academy, is to simplify the voting and increase the availability of the films for the Academy members.

Petr Vachler, the founder and former organizer of the Czech Lion awards remains a member of the Academy, although this year he might opt not to vote. His favorite film in several categories is Agnieszka Holland´s Burning Bush, he said in his recent press release.  

29 Czech feature and animated films and 17 feature-length documentaries which premiered in 2013 were eligible for the competition.
