PRODUCTION: A new Slovak documentary titled 38 about the life of Slovak ice-hockey legend, Pavol Demitra, is set to be released theatrically in Slovakia in April. Demitra died tragically in a plane crash along with other players of Russian hockey club LokomotivJaroslavl.

The film project 38, produced by noemo and Slovak director, screenwriter and actor Daniel Dangl. The film shows Pavol Demitra not only as a professional and excellent ice-hockey player, but also as a father, son, friend and, in particular, a strong man who managed to unite the Slovak population and became a model for many Slovak young people.

“We do not want to see the concrete athlete, but we want to present a man with strong personality. We want to learn more about how he lived, what he expected from life, what mattered for him and what he achieved,” said Daniel Dangl, producer and screenwriter of the project.

The film uses unique archival materials, exclusive materials from the archives of the NHL and personal statements. The individual events in Demitra´s life are retold by his close family, friends and team-mates without authors´ comments.

Biographical document 38, supported by Audiovisual Fund, is distributed by Itafilm and it will be released on 10th April 2014.
