Koza portrays the journey of a former Olympic boxer called Koza through manifold struggles and fights, an odyssey from defeat to hope that is inspired by love. The film features Peter Baláž, Atlanta Olympic Games participant in 1996 and Ján Franek as the coach, a Moscow Olympic Games participant himself.
The film was produced by sentimentalfilm and endorfilm in coproduction with Czech Television, RTVS and Punkchart films. The total budget was 709,000 EUR.
The film premiered in the Forum section of the Berlin Film Festival and was nominated for Best First Film. After the Berlinale, Koza gathered another 10 international awards. It was released in Slovak cinemas by ASFK distribution on 10 September 2015.
The Berlin-based company Pluto Film Distribution is handling the sales. The Slovak Film and Television Academy chose Koza as the film that represented the country in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 88th Academy Awards.
Koza will also screen at the Finale Plzen Film Festival (15 -21 April 2016).
