SOFIA: The prominent Bulgarian director Iglika Triffonova is currently in production with her feature Kalunyo. The film produced by the Bulgarian producer Rossitsa Valkanova and coproduced by the Dutch producer Petra Goedings and the Romanian producer Ada Solomon has already been acquired by Viena-based EastWest Filmdistribution GmbH.

BELGRADE: Young Serbian director Luka Mihailović has recently begun postproduction of his sophomore feature, the independent production The Claim. His debut feature Indigo Crystal had nearly 120,000 admissions in 2023 and landed seventh in the annual box office charts.

TALLINN: Estonian filmmaker Birgit Rosenberg is currently in production with her long documentary Totem / Tootem, an exploration of identity, politics, and memory. The film produced by herself through Estonia’s Door 2 Productions is set to be released in 2025.

BUDAPEST: The Hungarian/Canadian/German coproduction Fairyheart is currently in preproduction, as Anita Doron’s first long animated film received Eurimages coproduction support with the maximum allowable amount (500,000 EUR).

LJUBLJANA: Martin Turk is currently in production with his fourth feature film, the Slovenian/Italian/Croatian coproduction Washed and Buried / Čista in zakopana (working title). The script, co-written by Turk and Italian screenwriter Fabrizio Bozzetti, delves into themes of family, memory, and identity, blending elements of magical realism and family drama.

BELGRADE: Young Serbian director Momir Milošević (1989) is currently in production with Soap / Sapun. His sophomore feature, which he is also producing, is a horror film supported by Film Center Serbia.

BRATISLAVA: The acclaimed Slovak director Marko Škop is currently in production with his psychological drama Anna. His third feature film, which is a Slovak/Czech coproduction, tells the story of a 30-year-old neurologist, who lives in one apartment with her mother.

RIGA: Latvian director Krista Burāne is currently in postproduction with All the Birds Sing / Visi putni skaisti dzied, a musical documentary with animated elements. It aims to answer the question of what can be done to restore and balance in a world in which the relationship between nature and man has been disrupted.

LJUBLJANA: The famed Slovenian director Damjan Kozole is currently shooting his new feature film 20 Meters / 20 metrov, which is a Slovenian/Serbian/Croatian/Macedonian/Bosnian coproduction.

BUCHAREST: Romanian writer/director Mihai Mincan is currently in production with his sophomore feature Milk Teeth / Dinți de lapte. This 2.3 m EUR coproduction between Romania, France, Denmark, Greece and Bulgaria is supported by the Romanian Film Centre, the Bulgarian National Film Center, Aide aux cinémas du monde (ACM), Danish Film Institute (DFI), among many others.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Gjorche Stavreski is currently in production with his sophomore feature Swaps / Trampi. The film is a Macedonian/Czech coproduction supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency and the Czech Film Fund.

BELGRADE: The Return of Žika’s Dynasty / Povratak Žikine dinastije, a long-awaited sequel of the famous franchise that opened in 1977 with Zoran Calic’ Crazy Years – Žika’s Dynasty / Lude godine, is currently in production in Serbia, directed by Milan Konjević. Film Center Serbia is supporting it.

SPLIT: Croatian actor Josip Lukić is currently in production with his directorial debut feature Mom’s Alive Today / Danas je mama živa!. The film is a Croatian/Serbian/Kosovar joint, supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and Film Center Serbia.

HERCEG NOVI: Croatian director Irena Škorić began shooting her long documentary In Search of Lotika / U potrazi za Lotikom in the House of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić in Herceg Novi, Montenegro last weekend. The film is a coproduction between Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia and Poland.

SOFIA: Bulgarian director Nikolay Stefanov follows the reopening of the cold case of his father’s killing 30 years ago in a documentary, while also exploring the ideas of masculinity and fatherhood. Making Friends with the Idea of a Father, which is currently in production, won the Award of the Institute of Documentary Film at the 28th Baltic Sea Docs Forum (1 – 6 September 2024).

TALLINN: Estonian director Tõnis Pill is currently in postproduction with his debut feature Fränk, which is set to be released in the spring of 2025. This 100% Estonian coproduction is produced by leading company Allfilm.
