SKOPJE: Acclaimed Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska is developing her eighth feature film Petra Doesn’t Want to Die (Anatomy of Masculinity). This contemporary feminist drama is connected to the world and themes of her 2019 Berlinale competition title God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya /Gospod postoi, imetoi’ e Petrunija (produced by Macedonian Sisters and Brother Mitevski Production, Belgium’s Entre Chien et Loup, Slovenia’s Vertigo, Croatia’s Terminal 3).

SOFIA: Bulgarian director/writer Victor Bojinov is currently in postproduction with Chamkoria. Based on the bestselling novel by acclaimed Bulgarian writer Milen Ruskov, the film marks Bojinov’s second adaptation of Ruskov’s work, following Heights (produced by Serpentine ltd.,2017), which became one of the most successful Bulgarian films.

LJUBLJANA: Slovenian director Urban Zorko has started shooting his debut feature Jutro s hudičem, with the working title Morning with the Devil, on 27 August 2026 in the film studio FS Viba in Ljubljana.

VALLETTA: French director/writer Siegrid Alnoy has wrapped production on her sophomore feature Love Thy Neighbour / L’Amour du prochain, a low budget French/Maltese coproduction backed by Arts Council Malta and the Malta Film Commission, among others.

VALLETTA: Maltese director/producer Shirley Spiteri Mintoff is preparing her feature film Waiting to Hear from Julia, which will be shot in Malta and Italy in 2027.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Arben Thaçi has started shooting his second feature film Ajal, produced through the Tetovo-based company Arbfilm. The contemporary drama explores mortality, family ties, faith, belonging, and moral responsibility against the landscape of the Šar Mountain region.

TALLINN: Acclaimed Estonian filmmaker Ilmar Raag’s A Girl from Tallinn / Tüdruk Tallinnast is currently undergoing final editing and polishing in Tallinn. The six-part series is an Estonian/Ukrainian/Bulgarian coproduction.

VALLETTA: Maltese director/writer/producer Joshua Cassar Gaspar is preparing his sophomore feature Nativity, which will be shot in Malta and in the United States (Los Angeles) in 2027.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak directors Lukáš Hanulák and Matúš Krajňák are currently in production with an 8-episode TV miniseries called Drink Up! / Do dna! (working title), a psychological drama about alcoholism. To capture accurate and precise details, screenwriter Richard Pupala spent some time undercover in rehab.

TALLINN: Estonian director/screenwriter Andres Keil is currently in production with his documentary film Target / Sihik, which is produced by Jaak Kilmi through Pimik (Estonia).

VALLETTA: Maltese director Rebecca Cremona is overseeing production on Life Stream, an ambitious omnibus feature film produced by Kukumajsa Productions. The project comprises six distinct segments helmed by international writer-directors Muayad Alayan (Palestine), Ása Hjörleifsdóttir (Iceland), Chika Anadu (Nigeria), Shuming He (Singapore), Javier Colón Ríos (Puerto Rico), and Cremona herself.

SAAREMAA: Australian-born director Phillip Donnellon is currently in production with his German/Estonian/Finnish debut feature The Reef. Most of the shooting is taking place in Estonia.

ZAGREB: BARDO – A Post-COVID Story / BARDO – Jedna post COVID priča directed by Branko Ištvančić and produced by Artizana (Croatia) is currently in the last stage of preproduction. The 70-minute creative documentary is seeking production financing and international coproduction partners.

BELGRADE: Young Serbian scriptwriter David Jakovljević and director Siniša Cvetić are currently in postproduction with their third common feature film, Is It a Roar of Thunder, or the Shaking of the Ground? / Jali grmi ja l’ se zemlja trese?, a coproduction between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Igor Aleksov has officially started shooting his sophomore feature The Secret of the Bare Hill / Tajnata na Goliot Rid on 6 August 2026 in Skopje. The film is a coproduction between North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Serbia.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Marjan Gavrilovski has started shooting his third feature film Ants / Mravki, a darkly comic drama supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency.
