The 28th Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival starts in two weeks. The programme will offer more than three hundred films and includes a revealing retrospective of Swiss filmmaker Anne Marie Miéville and a showcase of award-winning Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-liang. The festival will be attended by director Kirsten Johnson, the author of this year's Ji.hlava festival trailer, and directors Roberto Minervini, Albert Serra and Andrei Ujică. The 28th IDFF Ji.hlava will take place on October 25 – November 3, lasting for the first time ten days.

HERCEG NOVI: Croatian director Irena Škorić began shooting her long documentary In Search of Lotika / U potrazi za Lotikom in the House of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić in Herceg Novi, Montenegro last weekend. The film is a coproduction between Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia and Poland.

COLOGNE: The upcoming 7th edition of the established industry event European Work in Progress Cologne (EWIP, 14 – 16 October 2024) will be accompanied by a high profile supporting programme consisting of a panel, case studies and one-on-one meetings.

An audience favourite, the NORDIC HIGHLIGHTS section of the Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF, 17–27 October), this year includes 13 films from the Nordic countries – 13 chances to peek inside the worlds created by filmmakers from Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland, and Sweden. In both in-person screenings and online, RIGA IFF will screen the most distinct and acclaimed films from Cannes, Berlin, and other film festivals, as well as bold hidden gems from the cinema of the Nordic region. Dear colleagues, the upcoming 7th edition of the established industry event European Work in Progress Cologne (EWIP), which will take place from October 14th to 16th 2024, will be accompanied by a high profile supporting program. BATUMI: George Sikharulidze’s Georgian/French/Italian/Romanian coproduction Panopticon received the award for best film in the Feature Film Competition section of the 19th Batumi International Art-house Film Festival (BIAFF). The festival was held 27 September - 3 October 2024 in Batumi, Georgia.

WARSAW: Here are the candidates of FNE partner countries for the 97th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category.

Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF, 17–27 October) 11th edition places a special emphasis on children’s and family films – over two weekends, in-person screenings and online, the festival will screen a sumptuous film selection from Europe and the world – KIDS’ REEL, suited for ages 2 to 14. KIDS’ REEL will present three feature films, including – for the first time in the festival programme – an anime genre film for the whole family, the world premiere of the beloved short animated series The Magic Wardrobe, as well as relaxed screenings of animation shorts. BUDAPEST: The big budget 10-hour series Rise of the Raven produced by Robert Lantos is heading the lineup of Beta Film at the MIPCOM in Cannes (21 – 24 October 2024), where it will have its world premiere on 22 October 2024.

SARAJEVO:  Danis Tanović's comedy drama My Late Summer / Nakon ljeta has been selected by the Association of Filmmakers of Bosnia and Herzegovina as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s candidate for the 97th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. My Late Summer is a Croatian/Romanian/Bosnian/Serbian/Slovenian coproduction.
