RIGA: The main character in Ilze Kunga-Melgaile’s debut feature My Freedom / Mana Brīvība is based on the journalist and politician Ita Kozakeviča, a bright figure in the pro-independence movement in the final Soviet years, who passed away suddenly at the age of 35 in 1990. The film had its international premiere at the 27th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, 3 – 19 November 2023.

The winners of the 27th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF)'s five competition programmes as well as the Just Film sub-festival for youth and children's films were presented with awards at the festival's award ceremony.

BUCHAREST: Until the end of 2023 Romania will start paying the debt of more than 35 m EUR due to international productions shot since the cash rebate scheme was launched in the autumn of 2018.

ZAGREB: British/Greek How to Have Sex directed by Molly Manning Walker received the Golden Pram for Best Feature Film at the 21st edition of the Zagreb Film Festival (6 – 12 November 2023).

RIGA: Latvia’s participation in the 27th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (3 – 19 November 2023) includes 11 films in several competition programmes and out of competition, as well as five projects at Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event.

PODGORICA: The war drama The Wedding / Svabda (1973) directed by Montenegrin Director Radomir Baja Šaranović will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a screening within the European Film Month in Podgorica on 17 November 2023.

PILSEN: The 11th edition of the CEE Animation Forum 2023, which was held on 8 and 9 November in Pilsen, Czech Republic, has announced its winners.

RIGA: The National Film Centre of Latvia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, started a Patriot Week online film festival on 11 November 2023. A selection of 15 films is available free of charge worldwide on the filmas.lv platform till 19 November 2023.

COTTBUS: The Ukrainian/Dutch coproduction Forever – Forever by Anna Buryachkova received the main prize in the Feature Film Competition of the 33rd FilmFestival Cottbus, which was held 7 – 12 November 2023.
