RIGA: Chronicles of Melanie directed by Viesturs Kairišs was selected by a panel set up by the National Film Center to be Latvia’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 90th Academy Awards. The film is a Latvian/Czech/Finnish coproduction.

GDYNIA: Sci-fi love story The Man with the Magic Box by Bodo Kox will vie in the main competition of the 42nd Gdynia Film Festival. The festival will take place from 18 to 23 September 2017. The Man with the Magic Box is a Polish/Italian coproduction and is set to be domestically released by Kino Świat on 20 October 2017.
