RIGA: Thirty best short films from Latvia and worldwide will screen in the Short Film Competition of the Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF, 16 – 26 October 2025). The films and this year’s thematic concept were introduced by the French film critic and longtime RIGA IFF Short Film Competition curator Léo Soesanto.

The best shorts from Latvia and all over the world in five different screenings on 22, 23, and 24 October will unite the audiences and the jury in the Short Film Competition at Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF, 16–26 October). 30 carefully selected works will be screened in the presence of the filmmakers in the Large Hall of the festival’s main venue, cinema Splendid Palace, and in the DELFI LUX auditorium of Forum Cinemas. Tickets to the screenings are available on the festival website, rigaiff.lv or at Biļešu serviss sales points.

Since Saturday, director Maja Weiss has been shooting her new live-action short, titled The Hanging Bridge, at various locations in Goriška Brda, Nova Gorica, Gorizia, and Solkan. The film explores a longstanding rift and attempted reconciliation within a family that split in 1947, when the inhabitants of the Gorizia region were separated by an impassable national border. The events are triggered by two young artists: Martina from Gorizia and her peer Mark from Ljubljana. Although they are related, they did not know each other before. They made contact via social media and are now arranging a meeting between Boris, Mark’s grandfather, and Giulia, Martina’s grandmother and Boris’s niece. The family, torn apart for decades, is reunited by its third generation of descendants – a generation free from cultural, linguistic, and ideological barriers.
