DREAMS OF BEING THE NORDIC LOVEABLE: PROMOTING NORDIC FILMS INTERNATIONALLY

Europa Distribution is again attending the 31st edition of the New Nordic Films market, held from 19-22 August during the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund. Celebrating its enduring partnership, Europa Distribution will host an open panel titled "Dreams of Being the Nordic Loveable: promoting Nordic films internationally", which will feature case studies on the releases of Nordic films in Europe. This initiative offers an exclusive platform for independent film publishers and distributors to collaborate, exchange strategies, and broaden their horizons on the promotion and reception of Nordic films globally.

BUDAPEST: The Hungarian minority coproduction and big-budget epic Rise of the Raven has been sold by Beta Film across the globe ahead of its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (4 – 14 September 2025).

PRAGUE: Klára Tasovská’s documentary I’m Not Everything I Want to Be has been selected as the Czech Republic’s candidate for the 98th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a Czech/Slovak coproduction.

Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, the region’s leading platform for the audiovisual industry, has opened the submissions for Works in Progress projects. For the 2025 edition, the call is open in three categories: Children and Youth Film (Just Film) Works in Progress projects, Baltic Event Works in Progress (Baltic and Finnish projects), and International Works in Progress.

LOCARNO: The German/Georgian coproduction Dry Leaf, written and directed by Alexandre Koberidze, will have its world premiere on 13 August in the International Competition of the Locarno Film Festival (6 – 16 August 2025). Heretic acquired rights ahead of its premiere.

Munich/Toronto, 11 August 2025. Beta Film has sold Rise of the Raven across the globe ahead of its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Following the prestigious festival premiere, CBC will bring the ten-part series to Canadian audiences on their streaming channel CBC GEM from September 19.

BUCHAREST: The Romanian-born American star Sebastian Stan will play the lead in a new project of the acclaimed Romanian director/writer Radu Jude, which will combine the Frankenstein myth with the myth of CIA prisons in Romania 20 years ago. In another project, Jude is teaming with Tunisian-French producer Saïd Ben Saïd.

BUCHAREST: The French Institute in Romania is launching in Bucharest the Film Therapy Film Club, which will pinpoint mental health and social challenges, with a focus on youth problems.
