CLUJ-NAPOCA: The Whaler Boy, a coproduction between Russia, Poland and Belgium directed by Philipp Yuryev, received the Transilvania Trophy at the 20th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) during a closing ceremony held in the main square in Cluj-Napoca.

Talents Sarajevo accompanying the 27th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival will welcome 56 up-and-coming directors, producers, screenwriters, actors, cinematographers, editors and film critics from 14 countries of Southeast Europe and the Southern Caucasus.

This year, participants hail from 14 of the 19 eligible nations, namely: Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey. Numbers of 2021 participants by country are more evenly distributed than in recent years, with between one and eight Talents from each nation, the only exception being Romania with 12 participants total.

As part of this year's Avantpremiere Series programme of the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival, the audience will be presented with the five latest drama series.

The festival audience and film professionals will have the opportunity to watch the first two episodes of the first seasons exclusively on the cinema screen, and meet the cast of the series: AWAKE, TIME OF EVIL, BAD BLOOD, BLACK WEDDING and THE GOLDEN BOY.

BUCHAREST: New feature film projects by Cristian Mungiu, Radu Jude, Adina Pintilie and Ivana Mladenovic received production support from the Romanian Film Centre (CNC) at its first grants in 2021. CNC distributed approximately 4.2 m EUR / 20,812,120 RON as production grants for feature films, debut features, documentaries, short fiction films, animated films and thematic films.

The following grants have been announced by the Romanian Film Centre on 27 July 2021.

WARSAW: Kids Kino Industry, the pitching and co-production forum for feature films and series (live-action, animation and documentaries) for young audiences, has announced the 24 projects for its next edition to be held in Warsaw and online from 28 September to 1 October 2021.

BUDAPEST: Hypewriter, the international pitch forum for original tv series ideas, has extended its submission deadline until 31 August 2021. The forum is organised by Paprika Studios and RTL Hungary.

Actress Jasna Đuričić (President of the Jury), director and screenwriter Mike Cahill, director and screenwriter Lili Horvát, artistic director of Viennale - International Film Festival in Vienna Eva Sangiorgi and executive director of AFC – Austrian Film Commission Martin Schweighofer will serve on the Jury of the Competition Programme - Feature Film of the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival.

A total of 47 films will compete for the Heart of Sarajevo awards at the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival. The Festival’s four competition sections – for feature, documentary, short and student film – will feature 18 world, 3 international, 1 european, 24 regional and 1 B&H premieres.

This year, the Sarajevo Film Festival Selection team lead by Creative Director Izeta Građević has seen 683 films submitted for the Festival, including 135 feature fiction films, 153 documentary, 245 short and 150 student titles.
