TRIESTE: The 11th edition of the coproduction forum When East Meets West (WEMW), taking place 25 – 28 January 2021, will present 21 film projects from 14 countries.
We are happy to announce that for 2021, Pop Up Residency partners with New Horizons International Film Festival , Friss Hús Budapest International Short Film Festival, Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival and prepared a special program for the film projects and their filmmakers from Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The Pop Up Film Residency Visegrad creates a space for the residents to profit from a 3-week long scriptwriting residency in Bratislava where each project gets its own international mentor.
At the same time the residents will work with fellow filmmakers from the Visegrad Countries.
The participating projects from the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland are selected in cooperation with our partners from national projects presented at Budapest Debut Film Forum 2020, New Horizons Studio+ 2020, and the Emerging Producers 2014-2019.
The residencies will take place in Bratislava from 10 – 31 March 2021.
The Pop Up Film Residency Visegrad is supported by the Visegrad Fund.

The final workshop of the MIDPOINT Shorts program starts online on Monday, January 11 and runs till Friday, January 15.
8 participants have already experienced two online workshops and individual online consultations that were conducted September – December 2020.

PRAGUE: Ten documentaries have been selected to participate in the 10th edition of East Doc Platform, the coproduction, funding and distribution market for documentary filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe, organised by the Institute of Documentary Film (IDF). Another ten films are in the East Doc Market, and five projects are participating in East Doc Interactive. The programme will take place in an extended online format from 6 to 17 March 2021.

Berlin, December 12, 2020 – COLLECTIVE by Romanian-German filmmaker Alexander Nanau has won the top documentary award at this year’s EFA.
COLLECTIVE chronicles a team of fearless journalists as they expose political corruption in the highest ranks in Romania that led to the loss of many innocent lives after a nightclub fire in Bucharest in 2015.

Festivals 13-12-2020Ivan I. Tverdovskiy wins the main prize for the best film in the Feature Film Competition of the 30th FilmFestival Cottbus. This is the third time the Russian director has been awarded the 25,000 EUR prize at the FFC, following CORRECTIONS CLASS (2014) and ZOOLOGY (2016). The Special Award for Best Director goes to Piotr Domalewski for I NEVER CRY. Acting debuts Marijana Novakov, Tijana Marković and Valentino Zenuni from Ivan Ikić's OASIS are honoured with the prize for an outstanding individual performance.
At the anniversary edition, not only the winners from the Feature Film Competition will be given the LUBINA, but also the winners from the Short Film and U18 Youth Film competitions.
Altogether, prizes worth EUR 72,000 in total will be awarded at the 30th FFC, whose programme of 150 films can be viewed online and streamed nationwide until December 31, 2020.
