Supporting the Development of Animated Films: Key Challenges and Opportunities

The CEE Animation Conference GO! 2025 brought together independent animated film producers, public film fund representatives, creatives and other industry professionals for three days of discussions on Green Animation and the establishment of an International Co-development Support Mechanism. Held in the countryside connecting Nova Gorica–Gorizia, the European Capital of Culture 2025, the conference concluded with action plans addressing both subjects.

ZAGREB: Animafest Zagreb has announced the lineup for its Short Film Competition, one of the strongest competitions in the world of short animation. The festival will be held 2 – 7 June 2025.

BUCHAREST: The 29th French Film Festival will be held 20 - 30 March 2025 in 12 Romanian towns (București, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Iași, Brașov, Brăila, Arad, Sibiu, Suceava, Sfântu Gheorghe, Târgu Mureș and Constanța) as the core event of the French Spring TOGETHER, celebrating 100 years of the French Institute in Romania (May 2024 – May 2025).

NICOSIA: The 23rd edition of the Cyprus Film Days International Festival has announced the titles selected for its Glocal Images International Competition Section and the Cypriot Films Competition Section. The festival will be held 4 – 12 April 2025.

NIKŠCIĆ: (RE)ANIMATION, the first Festival of European Animated Film and Illustration in Montenegro, will be held in the city of Nikšić from 20 to 22 March 2025. It will include a Salon of Illustration and Animation with 37 Montenegrin authors selected from among 200 submissions and vying for three cash prizes.

BUCHAREST: The Film O’Clock International Festival has announced the programme for its 5th edition that will take place 3 – 6 April 2025 simultaneously in 11 countries including Romania, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Poland.

BRATISLAVA: Visegrad Film Forum has announced the programme for its 12th edition, which will be held in Bratislava from 19 to 22 March 2025.

PODGORICA: Montenegrin director Đorđe Vojvodić is expected to wrap postproduction on his 100-minute documentary Nothing for You to Change / Ne pokušavaj mijenjat’ me by mid-July 2025. The film is a coproduction between Montenegro and Serbia, supported by both countries’ film centres.

RIGA: Baltic Sea Docs is now accepting project submissions for its 29th edition till 9 May 2025. The leading documentary coproduction pitching event in the Baltic region will be held 31 August – 5 September 2025 in Riga.
