SARAJEVO: Una Gunjak’s debut feature Excursion / Ekskurzija has been selected as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s candidate for the 96th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a coproduction between Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, Norway and France.

PRAGUE: CEE Animation Workshop has launched the call for applications for its 6th edition to be held in 2024. The deadline for submissions is 20 October 2023.

In Prague, 12th September 2023 – As every year the candidate of the Czech Republic for the Academy award in the category of Best International Feature Film is chosen by the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA), which is also responsible for the Czech Lion film awards. This year the academics voted for the film Brothers (Bratři) by the director Tomáš Mašín and this film will fight for the award of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The drama tells one of the greatest stories of the Cold War – the story of the Mašín brothers, who decided to leave the communist Czechoslovakia with arms in their hands.  The film will be premiered in Czech cinemas on 26th October this year.

VILNIUS: Marija Kavtaradze’s sophomore feature Slow has been selected as Lithuania’s candidate for the 96th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a Lithuanian/Spanish/Swedish coproduction.

BUCHAREST: A jury of film professionals, including documentary director Alexander Nanau, has selected Radu Jude’s Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World / Nu aștepta prea mult de la sfârșitul lumii as Romania’s candidate for the 96th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a coproduction between Romania, Luxembourg, France and Croatia.

Call for entries for the CEE Animation Workshop 2024 is now open! The 6th edition of the year-long training programme will consist of 4 modules and will help develop 12 animated projects and enhance the skills of producers and creative teams in the field of animation. The deadline for submissions is 20 October 2023.

VENICE: FNE teamed up with FIPRESCI critics attending the Venice Film Festival to rate the films in the Main Competition, Orizzonti, Venice Days and Critics Week giving the films 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars. 5 is the best and 1 is the worst. The ratings give an overview of critics’ opinions from a large number of countries and provide insights to what critics in many different countries think about the programme.

MISKOLC: Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry by Elene Naveriani received the main award, Imre Pressburger Prize at the 19th edition of the CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival, held 1 – 9 September 2023.
