WARSAW: New Europe Film Sales has sold the Icelandic/Polish/Danish coproduction Under the Tree by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson to Bac Films Distribution in France.

VALLETTA: Working Title drama about the 1976 Entebbe hijacking of an Air France plane is set to shoot in Malta and the UK. Daniel Brühl, Vincent Cassel and Rosamund Pike are rumoured to star.

On 20 September 2016, the 17th edition of Bergen International Film Festival starts in Norway, hosting also a vast section of international creative documentaries.

VENICE: FNE asked Silvia Costa about the new strategic policies for film and culture within the European Union and why culture had a primary role to play in terms of cultural diversity and European cultural identity at this time of crisis in Europe.

BATUMI: Nine titles will compete in the international feature film competition of the 11th Batumi International Art house Film Festival, which will be held from 18 to 25 September 2016.

ZAGREB: Constitution by Rajko Grlić won the Grand Prize of the Americas (Best Film) at the 40th World Film Festival in Montreal (25 August- 5 September 2016). The film is a Croatian/Czech/Macedonian/Slovenian/UK coproduction.

VENICE: FNE together with FIPRESCI have invited FIPRESCI critics in Venice to rate the films in all four of the official competition programmes of the festival giving the films 1,2,3,4 or 5 stars. The ratings give an overview of the critics’ opinions from a large number of countries and provide insights to what critics in many different countries think about the programme.

SIBIU: The 23rd edition of ASTRA Film Festival, one of the most important documentary showcases in Eastern Europe, will run in Sibiu from 17 to 23 October 2016 with eight titles in the main competition and ten in the Central-Eastern European competition.

SOFIA: Action/Adventure Category 5 by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, Mummy 3) started shooting on location in Bulgaria on 29 August 2016. Shooting will wrap in 11 weeks-time and will be followed by another week in the UK.

MEDIAS: Son of Saul by László Nemes was awarded Best Film of the 6th edition of Mediaş Central European Film Festival (MeCEFF). The festival, which took place from 1 to 3 September 2016, is the only festival in Romania dedicated to films from CEE.
