WARSAW: Polish cult film director Andrzej Kondratiuk died 22 June 2016 in Warsaw. He would have turned 80 on 20 July.

PRAGUE: The 51st Karlovy Vary IFF, which runs 1-9 July 2016, has announced awards totalling 150,000 EUR as part of its Film Industry @KVIFF 2016 events.

The International Union of Cinemas (UNIC) 2015 annual report shows healthy increased cinema attendance across much of Central and Eastern Europe, with especially strong results in Poland, Estonia and the Czech Republic.

PRAGUE: The Czech company SEBRE has purchased a 20 percent stake in Serbia’s Avala Film Studio. The company said there are plans to invest as much as 10 m EUR into the studio in the next three – five years.

For the 12th time, Docu Talents @KVIFF will introduce the most remarkable creative documentary projects from Central and Eastern Europe in the stage of production or post-production. The Docu Talents 2016 selection was unveiled at a press conference today.

PRAGUE: The Jihlava IDFF’s 12th edition of Docu Talents has selected 12 documentary film projects to be introduced on 5 July 2016 at the Karlovy Vary IFF.

TALLINN: The Estonian animation studio A Film Estonia is coproducing a 26-minute animated film with Dublin’s Giant Animation. The Overcoat will be voiced by Cillian Murphy and Alfred Molina. Kristel Tolsepp is producing for A Film Estonia.

Film New Europe and Independent Film Foundation are celebrating the 10th anniversary of ScripTeast with a series of weekly interviews with scriptwriters and key players involved in ScripTeast activity.

TRENCIANSKE TEPLICE: Four student films will compete for the main prize of the On the Road competition of international student films at the first edition of the new IFF Trencianske Teplice, which will take place 23-26 June 2016 in the Slovak spa resort town.

Seven documentaries have been nominated for the 2016 Doc Alliance award.
