The Doc Launch presentation showcases outstanding feature documentaries from Central and Eastern Europe slated for theatrical release. It is designed for documentary projects and rough cuts scheduled for release from November 2011 - October 2012. Application.

September 1, 2011 is our deadline for:

· EAST EUROPEAN FORUM - supporting funding and promotion (October 24 - 31, 2011, Jihlava, CZE)
East European Forum is the largest co-production meeting for creative documentary projects in development and production from Central and Eastern Europe. At the Forum, producers and directors offer their projects for co-production, pre-buy or acquisition. The presentations are followed by Feedback Round Tables where the projects are discussed in detail. Online entry form.

September 30, 2011 is the industry registration deadline for the entire INDUSTRY PROGRAMME:
East European Forum, East Silver Market and the Doc Launch presentation are the central events of the Industry Programme organized in Jihlava by the Institute of Documentary Film since 2001. The Industry Programme includes Industry Screenings, one-on-one meetings at the Project Market, country-themed Co-production Breakfasts, Case Studies, Master Classes, Networking Dinners, Seminars and other forms of support for documentary films. In 2011, the Industry Programme is expected to host around 100 representatives of European and North American broacasters, festivals, distributors, sales agents and film funds. In addition, it will be attended by some 400 filmmakers, producers, representatives of film institutions, organizations and schools. Documentary professionals can register to attend the Industry Programme starting June 2011.

TWO FILMS PRODUCED BY APPLE FILM PRODUCTION: "BETWEEN TWO FIRES", THE POLISH-SWEDISH FEATURE FILM DEBUT OF AGNIESZKA LUKASIAK, AND "MY AUSTRALIA", THE POLISH-ISRAELI DEBUT OF AMI DROZD, WERE SELECTED FOR THE POLISH FEATURE FILM COMPETITION OF INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF INDEPENDENT CINEMA OFF PLUS CAMERA 2011

Krakow, 1st April 2011 - National competition of 51st Krakow Film Festival (23rd -29th May) includes 35 titles. The winner of the national competition will be awarded with the Golden Hobby-Horse.

It is for the first time that feature documentaries enter the national competition. Two of them participate also in the international competition: "The Doctors" by Tomasz Wolski, currently in the post-production phase, and "Phnom Penh Lullaby" by Paweł Kloc, which has already been invited to three foreign festivals: in Nyon, Sheffield, and Toronto. Among feature films, there is also "Pomeranian Illusions" by Jacob Dammas and Helge Renner, which may move the audience just like "North from Calabria" did last year.

Marcel Łoziński, a Polish documentary classic, will present his most recent production, "Tonia and her children". - says Krzysztof Gierat,
festival director - This year we will have the opportunity not only to thank him for his regular presence at the Festival, but also to congratulate him on his birthday, a round anniversary coming up. It was after a nomination at our Festival that his "Poste Restante" was awarder with the European Film Award.

Once again, we have the pleasure of watching many talented laureates come back with their new films. Among them, there are Marcin Sauter,
Maciej Cuske, and Wojciech Staroń, whose "Argentinian Lesson" participates also in the international competition. These films comment not only on our Polish reality; filmmakers more and more often turn to the exotic parts of the world. This year, we will visit Cambodia, Argentina, Cuba, Kalmykia and Kyrgyzstan, Syria, and Lebanon. Having taken its rather absurd title from Marcin Świetlicki's song, "Jewish Moon" presents an unexpected spiritual transformation of a young soccer yob, while "Paparazzi" (also in the international competition) is a dynamic story about a photojournalist who, employing a rather particular ethic code, hunts his prey like a hound.

Debuts are also awaiting; they are always mostly anticipated because of the fame of the Polish documentary school. - continues Krzyszof Gierat - I am sure that there are award candidates among the debutants.

What about the fiction film category? Can we expect a fierce competition between two previous laureates of the Festival: Kuba Czekaj and Magnus von Horn? Or maybe they will be beaten by the only woman in this section, Julia Kolberger, or by Maciej Bochniak and Sławomir Shuty, whose insane, and very Krakow-like in its cast, "The Room" will be premiered here?

In the animation category, we will see films both from awarded, well-known filmmakers like Dragon of Dragons laureates - the Quay Brothers and a many times winner in Krakow - Piotr Dumała and from young authors, often still students. A new production from Damian Nenow will be presented by Platige Image studio.

Investors tune in to KINO POLSKA TV S.A.

Last week Kino Polska TV S.A. had priced its initial public offering at 9,50 zlotys per share, valuing its entire share sale at 38 million zlotys.

For the time being, Kino Polska TV S.A. is owner of Kino Polska TV which occupied the second place between most popular movie channels in Poland last year. Moreover, the Warsaw-based company also produces and distributes stations of the FilmBox group in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary. It is also the owner of a majority share in Stopklatka.pl., a film portal which has been awarded by the Polish Film Institute for its contribution to the development of Polish cinematography. Last year Stopklatka.pl debuted on the New Connect market.

Kino Polska TV S.A. is offering 4 million new shares in the IPO in the following series:
1,000,000 New Shares for the Small Investors Tranche (TMI)
3,000,000 New Shares for the Large Investors Tranche (TDI)

New investors will get about 28 percent of the firm after the IPO. Kino Polska TV S.A. will use the funds to develop its offer and invest in its infrastructure introducing new thematic channels.

"In the near future we are planning to offer Kino Polska HD, a channel that will enable the reception of Kino Polska Television channels in High Definition and Kino Polska Muzyka which will feature the history of Polish popular music", said Piotr Reisch, President of Kino Polska TV S.A. Management Board. "In addition, we are currently working on extending our premium services with new television channels from the FilmBox group: FilmBox Action, FashionBox as well as FightBox".

The winners of 16th Vilnius international film festival were announced during the official closing ceremony in the evening of March 31 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

A film by Romanian director Bogdan George Apetri „Outbound" (Periferic) was announced the winner of competition programme „New Europe - new names". The statue and the monetary prize by Vilnius city was awarded to film‘s associate producer Mihaela Popescu.

The special mention was given to Turkish actor Bartu Kucukcaglayan for his role in film „Majority" (Cogunluk). Second special mention was given to the actors of Slovak film „The House", the prize was awarded to the director of the movie Zuzana Liova.

The jury of competition programme was headed by director Milcho Manchevskij, other members were: Nadya Turyncev, producer, Alante Kavaitė, director and script writer, Gary McVey, director of American cinema foundation and Fred Kelemen, director and cinematographer.

CICAE jury also evaluated the films of competition programme and decided that the best film to fit into European independent film theatres is the film „On the path" (Na putu) by Bosnian director Jasmila Zbanic. The award was given to Croatian actress Zrinka Cvitesic. The members of CICAE jury, who came to Vilnius, are - Tejinder Jouhal from Institute of Contemporary art (ICA) London, Peter Muscatics, communication director of Hungary's leading international film festival CineFest and Christopher Gatt, General Manager of St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Malta.

16th Vilnius international film festival‘s audience award went to Canadian drama „Incendies", by Denis Villeneuve. The audience in Vilnius liked this film so much, that all the screenings of this film were a sold-out and not even four additional screenings were enough.

For the first time this year the audience voted for best Lithuanian movie. The audience decided, that the best Lithuanian movie this year is „Knygnešys" (Book smuggler) by Jonas Trukanas.

The best debut Lithuanian director was awarded for the second year and this time the award went to Mantas Kvedaravičius and his documentary "Barzakh".

Telewizja Polska (TVP), Poland's esteemed public broadcaster, will bring a strong lineup of fiction production and TV series to MIPTV, taking place 4-7 April 2011 in Cannes. Located in the Festival Palace at Stand 01.11, TVP's sales team will offer its fresh TV series Instinct and Twisted Fortune, and some of Poland's most outstanding film productions from the past year, including Made in Poland, Flying Pigs, and the Montreal Film Festival awarded film Venice.

Krakow, 31st March 2011 - There are 39 films competing in the International Short Film Competition at the 51st Krakow Film Festival, which is held from May 23rd to May 29th. The short film category is one of the festival's three competitions of equal rank, and its winner is awarded the Golden Dragon prize.

This year there are three hundred representatives of the documentary, fiction, and animation genre taking part in the oldest competition of Krakow Film Festival. The accepted films must have been no longer than thirty minutes. Although statistically the documentary film is the most frequent winner, this year the battle within the fiction film category will be particularly fierce. Daniel Mulloy, the winner of the Golden Dragon in 2007 whose shocking "Dad" divided the festival audience, is now back in the competition with his new film "Baby". There is also an American comedy with Anthony Hopkins. On the other side of the emotional pole is the Lithuanian depiction of the tragedy that took place in a small Austrian town, where a monster-father imprisoned his daughter and their five consecutively born children ("Our Father").

Paradoxically, Poland is represented by a Swede, outstanding Magnus von Horn ("Without Snow"), the two-time winner of our festival, who was last time awarded the Silver Hobby-Horse in 2009 for his "Echo"- adds Krzysztof Gierat, the Festival director. The fiction film category is complemented by the intriguing and entertaining films playing with the conventions of the genre cinema („Hasaki Ya Suda" and „Prunelle and Melodie").

The documentary section powerfully demonstrates the cultural diversity of the world. Although we have a very European slant this year, you will find a wealth of more exotic cinema at the competition. From Cuba we have the enigmatic "Raul's World", and from India "At the Stairs", which shows us the cremation grounds where widows who have escaped suttee - the ritual suicide after husband's death, are awaiting Moksha - liberation from the cycle of life and death. Two documentary films from Poland will have their world premiere in Krakow, along with "Without Snow" by von Horn. We will also show "Paparazzi" by Piotr Bernaś, an extravagant portrayal of celebrities' most hated profession, as well as "Decresendo" a cheerful story of a rest home by Marta Mironowicz who won of major prizes in Lipsk and Clermont-Ferrand for "A Piece of Summer".

While choosing films for the animated film section we have aimed at showing its adundant diversity - says Krzysztof Gierat - There will be short and amusing films from the Russian school of animation, and philosophical German films, along with Portuguese poetry and animated documentaries. A big favourite last year was "Millhaven" by Bartek Kulas which features a soundtrack by Nick Cave, but this year we are going ahead with "Stones", the animated Czech musical about love and crime!'

Krakow, 30^th March 2011 - The selection for competitions of 51^st Krakow Film Festival (23^rd - 29^th May) has ended. Films selected for the international documentary film competition has been announced in the first row.

International documentary film competition was open to documentaries with a running time of 30 to 60 minutes and more than 60 minutes and only premieres were accepted. The competition consists mainly of films spotted at foreign festivals, complemented by titles picked from the record 2700 festival entries.

Krzysztof Gierat, director of the Festival, who supervises the work of the Selection Committee comments on the results: Like a mirror, they reflect the most important problems the modern world is facing as seen from the perspective of an individual. Thus, there are films about the issue of priest pedophilia, virtual life substituting the real one, identity crisis,addictions, also those less harmful like the love of Harlequin books, and rivalry in achieving perfection, both artistic and religious.

The Israeli cinema continues to astound; in the form of a family movie it touches upon universal problems and emotions. I am proud of the Polish representatives, who more and more often venture into the remote world. Only Tomasz Wolski from Krakow decided to focus on people one might pass in the city centre. "Doctors" is a fascinating portrayal of cardiac surgeons who, working behind surgical masks, remain anonymous.

The results of the selection for the international short film competition and national competition will be published on March 31^st and April 1^st respectively.

Polish-Swedish feature film debut „Between Two Fires" by Agnieszka Lukasiak at FEBIOFEST film festival in Prague

Polish-Swedish feature film debut „Between Two Fires" by Agnieszka Lukasiak will be presented at FEBIOFEST film festival in Prague - one of the largest film events in Czech Republic. The festival is happening for the 18th time in Prague, between March 24th and April 1st.

"Between Two Fires" is a story of Marta that escapes from child trafficking in Belarus and ends up in refugee camp in North Sweden.The film brings out the issue of immigration, escaping persecution, fighting for survival and human rights Agnieszka Łukasiak, film director: „I wanted to make a film that will turn statistics into reality. A film that will transform numbers and cases we read about into actual people, so that prejudice can become understanding."

"Between Two Fires", Agnieszka Lukasiak's feature film debut, had its world premiere at Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea in October 2010, after which there was the European premiere at Warsaw Film Festival. In November 2010 Agnieszka Lukasiak was awarded the Interfilm Church Prize yesterday by the Ecumenical Jury of Nordic Film Days in Lubeck, Germany and in February 2011 with a Press Award at the XVIII Nationwide Festival of the Film Art PROWINCJONALIA. Magdalena Popławska, the actress playing Marta was awarded with the Prowincjonalia Audience Award for the Best Female Leading Role.

The Polish producer of the film is Apple Film Production, that received support of Polish Film Institute. Thanks to the involvement of Polish producer, apart from the director of Polish descent there were also Polish actors in the main roles. The film also has Polish cinematographer- Hubert Taczanowski, experienced filmmaker working mainly in UK and USA and the music was composed by talented and awarded Antoni Komasa- Łazarkiewicz.

"Between Two Fires" is a Polish-Swedish co-production created by Hob AB in co-production with Apple Film Production, Filmpool Nord AB, Republiken AB and Sonet Film AB, supported by the Swedish Film Institute, the Polish Film Institute, and the MEDIA Programme of the European Community.

Pomeranian Illusions is a multi-plot documentary that follows its protagonists during a very important time of their life. Together the stories of these four people reflect the changes that are coming to a small town Poland and challenge the people and the place they share: Darłowo, formerly known as the German town Rügenwalde, beautifully located on the windy shore of the Baltic Sea in the province of Pomerania.
