PRAGUE: The Czech comedy ONEMANSHOW – The Movie by Kamil Bartošek and Ondřej Pavliš had 291,761 admissions and 2.24 m EUR / 54,160,085 CZK gross in its opening weekend in domestic cinemas. The previous record from a Czech film was held by the Christmas comedy God´s Angel 2 / Anděl Páně 2 by Jiří Strach, produced by Marlene Film Production, which had over 188,000 admissions in December 2016.

TALLINN: The documentary Smoke Sauna Sisterhood by Anna Hints has been selected as Estonia’s candidate for the 96th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category.

RIGA: Films by Viesturs Kairišs, Signe Baumane, Elza Gauja, Giedrius Tamoševičius & Vytautas V Landsbergis, and Ove Musting are currently being screened in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia within the 7th edition of the Baltic Film Days (22 – 24 August 2023).

VALLETTA: Paramount's Production Gladiator 2 directed by Ridley Scott will receive a record 46,653,961 EUR from the 40% cash rebate for its shoot in Malta. The Malta Film Commission said the shoot will give a major boost to the Maltese film industry.

BERLIN: Safe Place by Juraj Lerotić, The Happiest Man in the World by Teona Strugar Mitevska, Slow by Marija Kavtaradze, Behind the Haystacks by Asimina Proedrou and Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry by Elene Naveriani are among the 19 titles chosen by the European Film Academy Board for the Feature Film Selection for the European Film Awards 2023.

Young Horizons Industry, the international co-production forum for films and series for young audiences (formerly known as Kids Kino Industry), is pleased to announce the ‘Focus on Docs’ section in this year’s programme. The ‘Focus on Docs’ section at Young Horizons Industry is organised in partnership with Andrzej Wajda Centre for Film Culture. Young Horizons Industry will take place between 4-6 October 2023 in Warsaw (and online) as the industry part of the Young Horizons International Film Festival.

This year Europa Distribution and New Nordic Films have again renewed their successful partnership and will hold an open panel entitled “How are Nordic Films released around Europe?”, focusing on the case studies of Nordic releases in different European countries, as well as the essential role of funding to promotion.

BUCHAREST: Director Bogdan Theodor Olteanu and Bold Film Studio (the first film investment fund in Romania) are teaming up again after their successful comedy Taxi Drivers (2022), but their new project, the independent comedy Klaus and Barroso / Klaus si Barroso, has a collective direction, as several members of the team are involved in the directing process.

MISKOLC: Films directed by Stephan Komandarev, Michal Blaško, Tóth Barnabás, Elene Naveriani and Tudor Giurgiu have been selected for the main competition of the 19th edition of the CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival, which will be held 1 – 9 September 2023.
