TALLINN: Liina Triškina-Vanhatalo’s drama Take It or Leave It has been chosen by a committee appointed by the Estonian Film Institute as the official candidate from Estonia for an Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The first documentary film summer school organized by the CinéDOC-Tbilisi International Documentary Film Festival will take place from 18 – 26 August in Gori, Georgia. CinéDOC summer school is an intensive week of lectures, exercises, film screenings and one-to-one meetings, conducted by an international team of specialists within the field of this year’s focus: Framing Reality.

SARAJEVO: The Ukrainian/Belarussian coproduction My Granny from Mars directed by Alexandar Mihalkovich and Birthday directed by Hilal Baydarov from Azerbaijan received the Docu Talents from the East Award ex-aequo during the 2018 Sarajevo Film Festival. At the same event, representatives of the Ji.hlava IDFF also revealed the names of the Emerging Producers 2019.

FNE spoke to SOFA founder and director Nikolaj Nikitin as the 6th edition of the annual event gets ready to kick off in Warsaw. SOFA will take place in Warsaw from 26 to 31 August and will be followed by a second session in Tbilisi in April 2019.

SARAJEVO: Six young filmmakers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Serbia will co-write and co-direct a 10-minute film with a young director from outside the region. The films will premiere on the opening day of Directors' Fortnight in Cannes, as the Sarajevo Film Festival has teamed up with Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and the French company DW on the 2019 edition of short film initiative The Factory.

GORI: The first documentary film summer school organised by the CinéDOC-Tbilisi International Documentary Film Festival takes place in Gori, Georgia from 18 to 26 August 2018. Twelve filmmakers from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia have been selected.

SEVILLE: Six documentaries from CEE countries are among the 15 European documentaries recommended for a nomination for the European Film Awards 2018. The EFA Awards ceremony will be held in Seville, Spain on 15 December 2018.
