PULA: Six films will compete in the Croatian Programme of the Pula Film Festival, which will run under the new artistic director Pavo Marinković from 17-24 July 2021.

The following awards were announced by Film Center Serbia on 21 June 2021.

VALLETTA: A shark attack thriller The Wreck by Liam O’Donnell will start filming in Malta in September 2021. The film is set to take advantage of Malta’s cash rebate of 40% on all eligible expenditure.

ZAGREB: Twelve projects from 13 countries have been selected for the ZagrebDox Pro workshop, which is running online 21-25 June 2021.

VALLETTA: Cinemas in Malta and Gozo registered 165,475 admissions in 2020, representing a drop of 78% compared to 2019, which had seen a total of 748,568 admissions, according to Malta’s National Statistics Office.

LIBEREC: The 2021 edition of Anifilm – International Festival of Animated Films starts in physical form today in Liberec, Czech Republic. Ten feature films will compete in the International Competition of Long Animated Films.

PAPHOS: The 6th edition of the Paphos International Film Festival (PIFF) will present 25 independent short films and documentaries within open-air screenings from 25 to 27 June 2021.

CLUJ-NAPOCA: The international ballet star Sergei Polunin will be a special guest of the 20th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (23 July – 1 August 2021).

ZAGREB: Downstream to Kinshasa by Dieudo Hamadi received the Big Stamp in the International Competition of the 17th edition of the ZagrebDox International Documentary Film Festival, which was held physically from 13 to 20 June 2021. My Uncle Tudor by Olga Lucovnicova was awarded the Big Stamp in the Regional Competition.

10/06: National recovery plans: historic opportunity for long-term sustainable growth – European Parliament

The resolution on the ongoing evaluation of the national recovery plans submitted so far by EU member states was adopted. MEPs called on the Commission to only approve plans that fully meet the targets and goals agreed in the RRF regulation and to not bow to any political pressure.

04/06: New EU copyright rules that will benefit creators, businesses and consumers start to apply – European Commission

Monday 7 June marked the deadline for Member States to transpose the new EU copyright rules into national law. The new Copyright Directive protects creativity in the digital age, bringing concrete benefits to citizens, the creative sectors, the press, researchers, educators and cultural heritage institutions across the EU.

On 18 May 2021, the Council of the European Union approved conclusions to support the recovery and transformation of the European media sector. The conclusions respond to the Action Plan presented by the Commission on 3 December 2020.

04/06: Recovery and future transformation of Europe’s media and audio-visual sectors – CULT Committee

During its committee meeting on the 27 May, the CULT Committee held an exchange of views on an own-initiative report (INI) recommending ways towards recovery and deep transformation of the media and audio-visual sectors in Europe. During the exchange of views following the presentation of the draft report, questions were put forward to experts who prepared an accompanying research commissioned by Policy Department B at the European Parliament.
