TALLINN: The Bulgarian film Fear won Best Film at the 2020 hybrid edition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, which concluded on 29 November 2020. The director Ivaylo Hristov and the producer Pro Film shared the prize money of 10,000 EUR.

VALLETTA: The US film Romancing the Cure directed by Matt Shapira has just wrapped shooting in Malta.

Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, taking place on November 23-27, presents 14 TV and drama series projects in development: five participating in Script Pool TV competition and nine taking part in the MIDPOINT TV Launch 2020 3rd workshop.

According to Marge Liiske, Head of Industry@Tallinn &; Baltic Event, it has been repeatedly pointed out that 2020 is a year when the demand for content has increased significantly, and drama series are now a natural part of many film industry events. “I am thrilled that together with MIDPOINT TV Launch, we have several new drama series projects from Europe onboard. In addition to the public pitching, we offer them a platform to set up one-to-one meetings with our industry guests, in order for them to find collaboration partners to proceed with their projects,” she adds.

The official selection of the Baltic Event Co-Production Market 2020, which runs on November 25-26, is more international than ever welcoming projects from Israel and the Philippines for the first time. As Industry@Tallinn &; Baltic Event has Russia in Focus this year, Russia is represented at the co-production market with five projects.   

Leana Jalukse, Co-Production Market Manager, said that despite the unexpectedly difficult year for the film industry and everyone in general, they were pleasantly surprised to receive the same amount of submissions as always with the quality rising ever higher. “We are thrilled to see that producers from high production capacity countries such as France and Germany are looking towards our territories for co-production opportunities. The themes, as always, come across the spectrum, and we are happy to support rising talent by showcasing a number of debut features - all by talented filmmakers who have won numerous awards for their short films,” she added. 

The international short film and animation festival PÖFF Shorts has announced the winners of its 2020 edition.

The three winning films now eligible for the short film Academy Award nomination are "Struck by Lighting" (dir. Esko Romet, Estonia 2020), "Precious" (dir. Paul Mas, France 2020) and "Between You and Milagros" (dir. Mariana Saffon, Colombia 2020).

The PÖFF Shorts European Film Academy candidate for the Best Short Film will be announced on Friday, November 27 at the Black Nights Film Festival closing ceremony.
